The Escapist's Fantasy

Rylan was a computer scientist working at CyberMind Systems when he commissioned construction for a personal starship. The small vessel was designed to have enough room for his wife, Althea, their daughter Kaesta, and their Feline Android Companion, Asimov. Originally he wanted a ship that could help his family to travel The Dark Galaxy in search of advanced medical treatments for his ailing wife. When a server breach began The Syntax War, Rylan used the small ship to help his family escape the the violent android slaughter of all humans living on the advanced world that had been their home.

Paranoia Pays Off

The Escapist's Fantasy has a super computer that is shielding from outside interference. It is impossible to hack the system from outside of the vessel. Rylan wanted his ship to be able to maintain the integrity of its computer during their potentially long journey searching for a cure for his wife's congenital disorder, Isolated Sensory Network Dysfunction. Thanks to his design, the ship has survived several attacks from Captain Claw and The Marauders.

The Rechargable Ship

The Escapist's fantasy is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system and has a backup solar power generator. The ship is capable of refueling by entering the upper atmosphere of an appropriate gas giant. By staying near a bright star, the ship can slowly recharge its back-up batteries.

A Bountiful Garden

A well-designed HydroHarvest farm was designed to supply plenty of food for the three human passengers. The aquaponics and mysting system still function even after years of constant use. Unfortunately, some of the crops have died and Kaesta must retrieve more seeds. She's currently deficient in several important vitamins and is becoming anemic due to a shortage of iron supplying plants.

Advanced Hospice Care

Althea's room was equipped with advanced medical technology meant to help extend her life. Once she fell into a coma, Rylan desperately tried to reawaken her. When that failed, he tried to use biochemistry and computer technology to reach her consicous mind in other ways. Rylan knew that her cybernetic implant had failed.   Rylan made a desperate attempt to retrieve a new cybernetic implant for Althea from Lunaris but never returned from his mission. Eventually Kaesta and Asimov had to watch Althea die from her condition. It was a terrible tragedy that neither truly recovered from. They both worry about Kaesta falling to the same fate.

Aw, I love it, but it's so sad that they lost Althea on there. I hope Kaesta manages to get more seeds soon for the garden.

It's a very nice little ship, but I imagine it's quite lonely for Kaesta and Asimov now. HydroHarvest is the first stop for Kaesta during her heist so hopefully the garden gets restocked soon.

What a beautiful creation! And also such a sad origin story for Kaesta, I hope she can find a solution before its too late!   Overall a lovely article, and I only wish I would have had time to read more during WorldEmber already <3

Thanks, Nindonlord! I've really been terribly mean to the characters for the start of the story, but I love happy endings. I'm doing my best to catch up on reading during January's Reading Challenge because I didn't get enough read during World Ember myself. The good news is that most of the articles out there are going to hopefully stay public so we can take our time and enjoy them. :D
