The Hive

The Hive was originally an organization of around 30 million researchers on Primaria that were running experiments to observe how particles interact in the extreme gravitational field around a black hole and also hope to observe and solve the problem of quantum gravity. One "day" one of the reactors overloaded and exploded, releasing high-energy photons. The photons behaved ... oddly, to say the least. Instead of being absorbed, the photons bounced around their brains and entangled brain cell after brain cell and then those brain cells with cells from other brains and so on until almost everyone's mind was entangled with everyone else. The only ones who escaped this were those few who were either on the other side of the planet building the Horizon Skimmer or those few who were otherwise shielded from the photons released in the explosion.
Most of the Hive lives in the HIRSBHRS and contributes to its research.

Intellectual Characteristics

The Hive as a whole acts kind of like a brain whose hemispheres aren't able to communicate. They act as individual neurons or groups of neurons that are communicating with one another to form one consciousness, or "superbrain", while also retaining a tiny portion of themselves and their own consciousness.
