Church of the Abyss
The Church of the Abyss is a cult formed and led by Ulrich, Saint of the Abyss. While Ulrich was still a cleric for the Church of Light, he began to have nightmares of himself being dragged to the bottom of the ocean. He'd see himself surrounded by the dark waters, eventually seeing fragments of people's souls and their fleshy remains. The thought frightened Ulrich to his core, yet each night the re-occurring nightmare introduced something different or new. Ulrich then understood the abyss of the ocean as a symbol rather than an actual fate; the end of men lied at the abyss. Ulrich became so obsessed with this abyss that it drove him mad and resorted to inhumane experiments on corpses he took from a nearby graveyard. His heinous acts were soon discovered by fellow members of the Church, forcing Fordring Thermydor, the Grand Leader of the Church of Light, to banish Ulrich himself from all Church grounds and Alaran City. Ulrich was left to his wicked devices, visited by the dreadful nightmare for every following night. The visions led him to find passage to Northern End, enduring the unforgiving tundra until he found refuge in an abandoned cathedral that he once saw in a past nightmare. The building became his home, and continued with his inhumane research and experiments on the corpses buried deep next to the withering building. As he explored the innards of the cathedral, Ulrich would find his greatest treasure yet; a powerful crystal artifact he'd call his 'precious'; the Amethyst Light Crystal.
Days went by, and realized he emptied out the entire graveyard of useable bodies. As so, Ulrich traveled westward to the Kingdom of Ylhelm, where he'd kidnap men, women, and even children under the guise of seeking help to take food and supplies to his home. Some of his victims begged for their lives, and Ulrich found an opportunity to facilitate his research; using the power of his Amethyst Light Crystal, he'd conscript his victims to serve him. With so many enslaved kidnapped people, the influence of the Abyss grew in two months. Ulrich's thralls merged back into society and lured in more people from Ylhelm and even from the northern region of Victoria. The Church of the Abyss grew exponentially, and with vast numbers they worshipped Ulrich, ascending him to the status of a saint; the Saint of the Abyss.
