Inkniplor

Thousands of years ago, an early adventurer remarked finding a black poop of liquid whilst exploring a cave. Setting up camp nearby, he watched the water, when beneath it he saw a small figure. As he watched, not wishing to get wet nor jump into the deep and rather scary looking water, it began to get larger and larger, until it came out of the lake.   A sickeningly pale squid, floating out of the black liquid. It slowly floated about the cave, ignoring him with it's two eyes. It's eyes seemed to react to his torch, but the body didn't react in kind. It merely floated about. He watched in awe as more came out. He was beginning to get worried, but his awe controlled his fear. He merely watched as they began to leave by phasing through the walls of the cave.   The described encounter was the first recorded encounter of an Inkniplor as seen in Human literature. Other species have had references to it, however, in their mythology. Nasculon mythology specifically references the Gradkletstest, pale white creatures that looked like squids.   There are typically three kinds of these creatures. First are the Scouts, males, who go through first to check if there is any danger nearby the portal area. If it encounters significant danger, like, per say, something trying to kill it, it will emit black ink into the air or water and head back through the portal. Next are the Protectors, which are males stronger than the scouts who stay with the herd to defend it. Unlike the scouts, these aren't passive and do not attempt to run, and instead will quickly attack and swarm anything that tries to attack. These can be provoked quite easily, and it's suggested to keep your distance, lest you get made a quick lunch of. Finally, there are females, which lay eggs and put them on two of their tentacles known as "Brivii" These are made to protect the eggs, providing indentation for them to stay in, but also let the Inkniplors out when needed.   Hunting these creatures is highly ill-advised, as they yield little meat and their skin isn't very usable, but the eggs are often eaten and considered a delicacy. This is typically done by using spears to kill the Protectors by making them impale themselves on spears (it is unreliable and typically doesn't work, but it's the best way at this point), then walking through the ink and grabbing the eggs.
These creatures supposedly travel through dimensions, and their only conduit to Leviathus is through the Blackponds. It is unknown where these creatures travel to, although there have been accounts that they come from the same place as Umibozu and Slinders, although this is purely speculative.
