Slinder

Slinders are rare creatures that inhabit woods with tall trees. This means cypress, spruce, cedars, and many other tall trees make a habitat for these beasts. Long considered the giants of the forest, the stalkers of the night, and the things that punish naughty children. In fact, all of the above, besides, of course, the naughty children one, are quite true.
Slinders are thin and lanky. They are black colored sillhouettes with striking light blue eyes. They wander the forests typically at night, and are never seen during the day. They typically emerge from "sinkholes" that dissappear as soon as the first morning light come about. It is unconfirmed, however the accounts line up well enough that it is taken for granted.   Slinders attack by waving their arms, kicking, and reaching for people. They are quite savage, and will not treat the people with any respect, although that is expected for a non-sentient creature. If one encounters one of these beasts, it is best to hide behind a tree or in a cave that one would happen to see.    Using ballistae, simple swords, harpoons or other things, one can kill one of these beasts. Ballistae are the most effective, however, like Umibozu, they are quite tough to kill even then. one good shot with a ballista can kill it, but it may take five shots or more, however, after that, they seem to bleed out.    Slinders have many byproducts. The jelly from their eye is very cold to the touch, as evidenced by the blue color, and can be used in satchels to store fresh meat for long periods of time. The skin of Slinders is rough, scratchy, and not as waterproof as their Umibozu counterparts, However, people still use it to make tents or to make overarmor or overcoats.   Their blood is strangely irritable, burning to the touch yet not exactly desintegrating the skin. Vials of this have been used in combination with oil to create a worse type of siege defense, although that is typically reserved for the most wealthy. It also has good potential as a potion material, mainly as a strong poison, which is why it is a habit among the richer folk and the rulers to swirl their finger in their drink before they begin to sip.
Something that was mentioned before and will be explored more deeply is the relation to the Umibozu, and by extension, the Lacton. The anatomy of the creatures is very close, and it is not far fetched to say they are part of the same family of creatures, which is why they are all in the same genus, "Umi".

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

It is unknown how these creatures reproduce, as it has never been seen before, nor have any juveniles been identified.

These creatures live where the tall trees can mask their approach.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These creatures supposedly eat Humans and other sentients, but it is not confirmed to be absolute.

Additional Information

Domestication

These creatures were domesticated by tribes on the coast of Liaskian Kerb to defend against Nullockian invaders. They were all killed after the raiding stopped, however the accounts remain consistent and absolute.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
