Session 6: Puris Arcanum

The three heroes find themselves beneath the ground of the Deadened Section, in the midst of the true headquarters of the Arcan Purists. Inside, they find rows upon rows of cells that once held victims of gruesome experiments. Accosted by three warforged guards, the three adventurers turn two of them into scrap, before the last one is mysteriously deactivated. In one of the cells, they find a brain-dead man who doesn't react to any of their efforts at interaction.   Exhausted and wearied, the trio heads further in and finds Riverton, the dwarven artificer from the House of Cesodo. To their shock, she welcomes them with a friendly demeanor. She reveals that she is familiar with the Spiderweb, and knows that they are under illusions. Hattori removes his illusion and begins to engage in polite conversation with Riverton, the two of them dancing around the true reason for the adventurers' presence. Eventually, Riverton reveals the mysterious rainbow marbles are concentrated Wild Magic, and offers Hattori a gamble- If the marble kills him, that's that. If he survives, she'll reveal their purpose.   After a brief hesitation, Hattori takes the marble and ignites it. For a moment, it seems as though Hattori is sliding out of reality, but eventually he settles in a half-corporeal form. True to her word, Riverton reveals her plan; these marbles are being infused into every magical item produced by the Great Glade's factories, in an effort to cultivate distrust against the factories and bankrupt the Bureau. She appears to be relatively confident in her plan, but Ikep remains suspicious, realizing that Riverton is being free with this information but holding something else back.   In an attempt to complete the mission, Hattori contacts Raal, who immediately sinks into anger as a past connection between Raal and Riverton is brought to light. After an extended argument, Raal detonates the sending stone in Riverton's face, a monstrous blow that she somehow shakes off. In the commotion, a loud disturbance is heard from above, and Riverton begins to urgently dismiss them. Makatza, though desperate to kill Riverton, is ushered away by the other two.   After a brief stop to collect the prisoner and figure out the mechanisms leading them back out, the trio reconvenes at the now empty Harrowman's Hut and plans their next move. Ikep makes the disturbing discovery that the man they rescued is somehow a void of magic, and all attempts to heal or resuscitate him are inconclusive, save for a brief moment of energy when the man was suffused directly with Ikep's magic. Afterwards, Ikep and Hattori destroy the Living Counterspell marble in fear of it emerging at an inopportune time. Makatza scries on the still-absent Raal, and finds him exacting Guerilla warfare on shipments of magic items in a desperate attempt to stem the plans of the Arcan Purists.   In the morning, the three adventurers make preparations to journey to one of the major factories in Great Glade, to see what information they can find. Hattori brings along Raal's sending stones that have lain dormant for the past several days, but will anyone respond? What will they find at the factory? And what more was Riverton not revealing about her plans?
