Elnar Laws of magic

The laws of magic are different than the rules of magic. The rules of magic are applied to the game, the laws of magic are applied to the world within the game. The Shadowdark Magic rules clearly state how you cast spells in a game setting. The laws tell you how magic actually works, this will allow you to think outside the box when casting spells, either Divine or Arcane. The Law are broken down like commandments. These laws can be broken, manipulated and taken apart. They also can be put back together to create something else.   Greater Elements: These are the powers of the Gods. they create with this power. These powers are all neutral, because good and evil is a construct of morality. Light is not good, and Dark is not evil. Laws are not good or evil (see below). you have positive energy and negative energy; both exist in the same space. a blend of both is balance.
  1. Space = Pure Energy = neutral neither hot nor cold, Light or dark. Dusk or Dawn. This is the energy of the Gods.
  2. Light - light or positive Energy, Hot Energy, Filled energy,
  3. Dark - Dark or negative Energy, Cold energy, Void Energy
There are three stages of these Laws. Please Note that Magic has no moral compass, no good or evil. Just Law "Order", Chaos, and Neutral.
  1. Order - This means that you are following the rules as it is written. There are safeguards put in place, but failure can still happen. This is how spells are cast by the rules.
  2. Chaos - This means that you are not following the rules as it is written. This means that you are disengaging all safety procedures and protocols. The spell will function no matter what, but it will have unknown effects. Good, bad or indifferent.
  3. Neutral - This means that you are following both the rules and not following the rules as it is written, a little balance of  chaos. That seems strange but this neutral action means that you are trying something that is not covered by the law nor is it chaotic, but a little of both.
Example: The rules states that you must study a spell for the next day use. you cast that spell until you fail with it, then it must be re-memorized before you use it again. This is the law of Magic Order. But you still are familiar with all the spells in your book and without study could cast from memory, you see you didn't really forget how to cast the spell, that is not the law, it is a rule. Rules are made to be broken, you can attempt to cast any spell in your book, at a disadvantage. This is against Order but not chaotic. It is Neutral. You may be asking yourself than what the heck is Chaotic? This is when the rules say that you don't know a spell and you try to cast it anyway.  I just found a 5th level spell and i am but a 2nd level, lets cast it.  The Law says you CAN NOT CAST.  Chaos says you CAN, it is extremely dangerous to you and those around you. Chaos ask "What is life without risk?"
  1. 1st law of magic: Greater elements cannot be produced; they already exist in everything. Therefore, the spell caster no matter how high a level or tier cannot produce the three greater elements. these are the building blocks of the universe. Major and minor can be produced but not Greater.
  2. Any two or three greater elements that are the same will become one that same element.
