a message stone is sometimes a magic item, but not always. it is usually a smooth river stone the size of your palm. Sometimes it is well polished other times it looks like a normal stone. The Druid can mark the stone and leave a message for anyone who finds it.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

It can have up to 20 spoken words and 40 written words. The Mark will show as magic if detect magic is cast on the item and it will glow green in the full moon light. These stones once marked can be used multiple times with the proper spell cast to activate. It is a 1st level spell known as Natures Whisper and can be learned by any mage. But it can only be taught by a druid and takes 1 week to master. The Wizard than can write the spell into his book. He cannot teach this spell to anyone, nor can it be put to a scroll. Druid spells are naturally verbal; thus, they can only be taught verbally.
