Ashago

Separated from the rest of the Altonan nations by the bulk of the Ruztvani landmass, this small cold nation attempts to maintain its own lonely path as the rest of the world steers onto a new course. Deeply rooted in tradition, the Ashago culture long ago rejected outside influence - allowing only limited trade through Norlanskan merchant vessels.

Demography and Population

Ashago has long had a more intimate relationship with the spirits of the world than the nations of the mainland. Although the majority of the nation is human, fey-touched races are surprisingly common here, with Hengeyokai and Hamadryads being notably integrated into Ashago society.   Varsatian races are practically unheard of in Ashago due to their closed borders.

Territories

The Ashago chain is a large group of islands off the western coast of Altona. Despite their small size, the islands boast a varied geography, with central mountain ranges sloping down to the shores, graced with cedar forests and rolling plains. Wintertime in Ashago is particularly severe, and both the people and wildlife of the islands have adapted to store and survive them.

Military

Ashago's Winter Guard are focused on defending the small nation from the beasts that lurk in its wildlands during the long, cold months. Its navy is similarly devoted to protecting their fishing fleets from the dangerous sea beasts that lurk in the waters around their nation.

Foreign Relations

Ashogos borders are closed to most foreigners - only Norlanksan ships are allowed in its ports, and outsiders are forbidden from running businesses in the nation. For their part, the Great Powers are content to leave the small island nation to its own devices for now, seeking out greater riches elsewhere.
