MALDWYN BRETHE is a sharp, companionable officer under the EORL OF SWANS. Maldwyn serves as the Eorl's Cup-Bearer, a great honor, and also as his major-domo and financial agent. Maldwyn is rarely far from the Eorl except when it comes to martial matters. He is often accompanied by a small coterie of either clerks or domestics depending on his task of the moment. The surviving second born son of the BRETHE line, MALDWYN spent a number of years as a page and then functionary at the Winds court in Diara due to the BRETHE family's attested loyalty to the fugitive GALAENIS line. When the Eorl reclaimed the Eorldom of Swans, Maldwyn was released to his custody and quickly became indispensable in the Eorl's court. He was knighted by the EORL OF SWANS in 52 ET for his service--not his martial prowess. It may have been this honor that soured the relationship between MALDWYN and his younger brother, SER IOAN. As they both serve in the Eorl of Swan's household there has been much gossip about the cause of their distaste for each other.
