Devour (duh-vau-uh)

The First Hallowed

Namesake: Devour's name stems from their existence being the greatest in size, consuming as much space as possible.

Summary

Devour, the first Hallowed, the one to see the beginning of the Universe at the very tips of their particles. The greatest in size, the oldest of the family, Devour was born from the first inconsistency in matter finding a home in the first matter-less space. The start was violent, but quick, expanding at a rate they’d never see again unless the Universe was to come to an end. The expansion was the gateway to finding their counterparts, others just like them. A young and expanding Devour played with the matter they’d been given, creating new and exciting space objects like primordial black holes, huge and short-lived stars (in turn creating the needed materials for creating more of these, and planets, even complex life).   It was proposed that once the other Hallowed found their specialties and started to work on creating evolutionary steps in the Universe, Devour took a back seat. This wasn’t because they’d not found their own powers but because their powers were the first ever creation and the last ever particle. They were not needed for the middle part. Devour doesn’t interact with the Universe other than maintaining the few small galaxies that aimlessly orbit their void, too cold and distant from others to ever harbour life.   Researchers imagine Devour as the Father of the Hallowed. It is a misconception that Devours shred themselves in order to create the other Hallowed, giving life to his family. If Devour had done this then they wouldn’t be around anymore, though evidence suggested otherwise (the greatest void in existence, over 330 million light-years in diameter, 0.27% the size of the Universe). This theory is a twist on the history of the Hallowed Relics, the origins of both histories colliding and mixing into one.   One of the most prized items in the Universe, according to The Archive, is Devour’s Relic. A piece of the oldest Hallowed may be different than the others, is there one even in existence, and if there have complex living organisms ever laid eyes on it? So many questions The Archive’s researchers still have yet to answer. There isn’t sufficient evidence to suggest Devour doesn’t have one. There is still a lot of research to be done into Devour’s history, though there is some acceptance in the Hallowed research community that they may never know all or even a fraction of the Hallowed’s history there is some peace in that—we look at their creation every day, the Universe.

Spread

The history of Devour is one that isn't as popular as their younger counterparts, this is due to their quietness before complex life came into existence.

Variations & Mutation

There are no variations of this Hallowed as of yet, but there is still hope there is an ancient civilisation that does celebrate the almighty Devour.

Cultural Reception

The Archive is yet to find a culture that celebrates Devour in any sense.

I wonder how they learned these things about Devour! Also, again, I love that it is named Devour. It's iconic, and having such a primal urge as the first Hallowed, the desire to eat, it's just, it fits really well. Reminds me of worldeaters and worlddestroyers of myth too.

I am forming ideas of the Archivists as we speak, and how they gained all this knowledge of the Hallowed, especially Devour! Those are two amazing things for them to remind you of. Thank you so much for your kind words.
