Shimmerton on Little Hill
Shimmerton is a city which has grown to significant power. The town, originally called Little Hill was founded on a small hill overlooked by Rosinhill's lands. However when diamond ore was discovered underneath the village in 327 ABA the Lord of Little Hill commanded that quarrying be started immediately.
When the Great Lord of Rosinhill heard of the mine in Little Hill he commanded the Lord of Little Hill to handover all the diamonds found in the quarry, claiming this to be his lands. The Lord of Little Hill would not yield his new found wealth. Knowing his defiance would resort in retaliation from the Great Lord he used his new found wealth to hire a free company of Charylon. The free company rivalled that of the Great Lord's army.
By the turning of the new year in 328 ABA the Great Lord marched his forces on Little Hill and engaged in a bloody battle with Lord Little Hill's forces. The battle now known as "The Battle of Blood and Diamonds" was a bloody affair. The battle ended when the Great Lord of Rosinhill was killed in battle and the forces of Rosinhill retreated.
The son of the Great Lord, now the Great Lord in his own right petitioned to the Crown for intervention. The King took council from his advisors and listened to the plight of both Lords. The King negotiated a peace. The Lord of Little Hill would keep ownership of his mines and the incomes made from them. However a large levy would be paid on these incomes to the Great Lord as was the Great Lord's right. This would in turn be taxed by the Crown. However for penance for their misgivings and unnecessary violence, both lords would both offer up a ward to the crown as assurance of their new agreement. Both parties begrudgingly agreed.
In time, the small town of Little Hill would grow and expand. The town which built around the quarry became known as Shimmerton, a name given for the shimmering of the diamonds produced from the quarry.
