Airships

The height of Oscraft in our world has allowed us to slip the bonds of gravity and travel amongst the sky. Rather, I suppose it only allows some of us to do so.   Airships start as a skeleton of metal constructed in ship drydocks, which are then covered in a skin of canvas, and that skin is coated with a solution that makes it impermeable to the air outside.   Inside this skin, most of the structure of the ship will be constructed. This includes things like the cells that will hold the Wisp infused gas that will give it buoyancy within the air, engines, crew compartments and passenger cabins, and any amenities deemed necessary for this kind of travel like kitchens, lounges, and even ballrooms if the rumours I've been hearing about some of the newer vessels being laid down are true. True leviathans of the skies, those ones.   Underneath the whole structure, or envelop as the engineers call it, a gondola sits, from which the captain and the rest of the command staff direct the actions and minutae of the vessel. The command center of the whole operation.   A set of outboard propellers push and pull the airship along at speeds matching a sailing vessel, but far exceeding the travel times of ocean going ships. A method of travel both luxurious and convenient for those with little time to travel. Most models are equipped with heavy-duty search lights, allowing the ships to find their way in the dark and hopefully avoid tussling with a mountainside.   It's even becoming a trend within the nations of the world to create warships of the aerial variety, strapping plating to the envelopes and large caliber guns atop and below. Their usefulness on the field of battle remains to be seen, but the benefits to the schools of reconnaissance and artillery are undeniable even without concrete example.
