The tavern's roof is caved in, and the wooden walls are rotting and splintered. The windows are broken, and the doors are missing, leaving the interior exposed to the elements. Inside, the furniture is overturned, and the floorboards are uneven and creaky. The air is musty, and the walls are covered in mildew and moss. The only remnants of the tavern's past glory are a few rusted metal mugs and tankards scattered across the debris-strewn floor.

History

The Old Traveler's Tavern was established in the early 1400s by a retired adventurer named Kethril. Kethril had traveled the Sword Coast extensively, and he wanted to create a place where fellow travelers could come together, share stories, and rest before continuing their journey. The tavern was built on the outskirts of Waterdeep, near a busy trade road, making it an ideal location for travelers passing through. Over the years, the tavern became well-known and well-loved by both locals and visitors alike. Kethril eventually passed the tavern down to his son, who continued to run it successfully for many years.
However, in 1450, a bandit group attacked the tavern, causing significant damage and forcing it to close its doors. Despite attempts to rebuild, the cost was too great, and the tavern was left abandoned for many years.
Rumors spread that the bandit attack was not a random act, but rather a targeted assault on Kethril's family due to their involvement in a local smuggling ring. The tavern became a site of mystery and intrigue, attracting adventurers and treasure hunters seeking to uncover the truth behind the attack and any hidden treasures that may have been left behind.
Despite the rumors, the truth behind the attack on the Old Traveler's Tavern remains a mystery to this day, and the ruins continue to stand as a reminder of a once-beloved establishment and the dangers of the Sword Coast.
