Session Fifteen: The Halls of Heroes

General Summary

The session started with the party in the Halls of Heroes looking to retrieve Tranquility. The party had a quick discussion about preserving the remaining sun rods they have received and possible try to lure any other undead into the chamber which has the Sacred Brazier of Balance burning. Sneatcha enters the corridor and hears noise coming from a chamber ahead. Sneatcha moves up the corridor to see if he could locate the source of the sound. As Sneatcha looked around the bend of the corridor into the chamber he steps on a pressure plate which causes an audible noise. Several skeleton warriors in the chamber notice the noise and chases after Sneatcha. Sneatcha races back down the corridor to the chamber where the brazier is lit. Sneatcha passes Friac who decided to follow Sneatcha. Friac gets caught in the corridor as the skeletons attack him.
  Valna steps in the corridor and uses her positive energy on the skeletons as Nyx moves up to help Friac. In the chamber with the brazier, Cora notices brazier begins to flicker as a small dark creature is in the brazier trying to extinguish it. As Cora uses a daylight spell, she notices several other small creatures in the wall recoiling from the light. Sneatcha enters the chamber and moves towards the small creatures. Sneatcha notices the wails of the small creatures had called a large shade which tried to attack him. Sneatcha avoids being hit and turns his attention to the shade. Cora attacks the small creatures as Valna enters to help Sneatcha. Nyx hits several of the skeletons dropping them as Friac helps. Sneatcha destroys the shade and help Valna and Cora destroy the remaining small creatures.
  After dropping the last skeleton, Nyx goes invisible and investigates the chamber where the skeletons came from. Inside the chamber she discovers a fresh body of a person in armor being eating by several zombies. The chamber holds a statue of Kelevmor with his scale. Nyx notices the scale is not balanced. Nyx returns to the other party and they determine if they are quiet, they are able to sneak past them. The party sneaks into the chamber and examines the scale. Nyx balances the scales and a door opens with stairs leading down. The party quickly moves down the stairs into a chamber below.
  Inside the chamber, Nyx notices the doors were spiked open and notices a set of traps were destroyed in the chamber. The party deduces they are not alone in the crypt. Nyx moves forward into the corridor and notices one of the corridors collapsed on itself. Nyx checks the other corridor and notices a door which is spiked open and voices echoing down the corridor. The party follows the corridor and finds it opens into a chamber. In front of the chamber, a pit trap was triggered. On the other side of the chamber is a large human with a great sword drawn with a female human with a bow drawn. Valna demanded to know why they were there as the human male just laughed and said it was a crypt waiting to be robbed.
  The party decided to attack as they notice necklaces with the Cult of the Dragon symbol on their necks. The party flies over the pit and engages the cultist. After a brief battle, the party destroys the cultist. The party examines the chamber and notices a Sacred Brazier of Balance in the chamber. On the far wall of the chamber is a large crypt door which proclaimed it was the crypt of Torm's Fallen Heroes. Nyx helps Sneatcha force open the crypt door. As the door is opened, shadows came pouring out wailing causing Cora and Friac to be filled with the feeling for dread.
  The party pushes into the chamber where they find a figure in dark full plate standing in the center of the burial chamber. Behind the figure a sarcophagi is broken open with the remains of a skeleton lying next to it. The figure calls out Valna telling her he had be waiting for her. He draws a black sword from his hilt and proclaims it is Tranquility. The figure tells Valna how he was once like her drawn to the duties of a good god and tried to make things right with the world but he soon discovered it was all a lie as the good gods just use people. He tells Valna to embrace the darkness and throws the sword into the ground. He tells Valna he is not going to stop her from taking the sword as he knows his fate.
  Valna grabs Tranquility and finds herself battling the forces of good and evil inside. Valna is shown the sins of her father which caused her mother to become the person she was. Valna saw how her father dies and is confronted by Barley which taunts her to strike him down. Valna strikes down Barley and feels the darkness fill in her as she briefly feels the power it possesses. Valna grounds herself and embraces the light. Valna feels whole with the sword and finds herself wielding Tranquility. The figure mocks Valna for her poor decision but stated it was expected. Two shadow demons appear behind the figure and the party attacks.
  Nyx and Sneatcha attack the figure as Cora and Friac support them. Valna fearing striking the figure down will have negative effects to her tries to attack the demons. Sneatcha grapples the figure as Nyx strikes the figure. The figure channels negative energy and causes Sneatcha to be cursed. Valna is hit with a spell which transports her to the shadow plane. The rest of the party fight the figure and strikes him down. The remaining shadow demons disappear as the party look for Valna.
  Valna finds herself in a small hut with Karla. Karla explains to Valna that she is having a hard time remembering things. Karla feels Valna can help her and return she will help Valna return home. Valna tells Karla she cannot help her. A shadow demon gets mad and tries to grab Valna but misses. Karla admonishes the demon but turns to Valna and grabs her hand. Valna tries to pull away but Karla’s grip is too strong. Karla releases Valna and tells her she appreciates the help as she now knows who she is. She knows what she most do and tells Valna it will not be the last time they will be meeting. Karla snaps her fingers and Valna is transported back to the crypt.
  Valna reappears in the crypt and tells the party what happened. Nyx exploring the crypt found a hidden stairway which leads back to the temple. Valna follows Nyx up the stairs as the others search the crypt. Nyx and Valna find Doombringer Soulhearth with a young human male in armor. Nyx returns the broken seals to Doombringer Soulhearth. The young human male thanks Nyx for returning the seals. After having a conversation with the young human male, Nyx deduces he is the avatar of Kelevmor. Nyx tries to press him for answers but he refuses to answer anything. Frustrated Nyx and Valna meet up with the rest of the party as they exit the crypt.
  The session ended.

  • The dark figure was able to have Valna transported to the shadow realm where she met Kara.
  • Karla used Valna's connection with Tranquility and blood of a destroyer and protector to find her true self.
  • The avatar of Kelemvor was at the temple and express gratitude for the return of the broken seals.
