Session Six: The Lost Treasure Found

General Summary

Session Prologue:
You retire to your rooms at the Trollskull Manor tired from the events at the Gralhund Villa. As you begin to fall asleep, the air around you feels heavy and energized. Your mind tries to make sense of it but you are soon lulled asleep from a soothing woman’s voice. You slow begin to awake and find yourself sitting in a small hut. You wipe the sleep from your eyes and focus on the dim light around you. Across from you, you see your party members in the same state of waking up. You are seated in a large comfortable chairs arranged in a circle. In the center of the chairs stands the same woman who has been haunting your dreams. You come to know her as Mystra.
  She looks at you with a sense of urgency and says,” I am sorry we keep meeting like this. I was able to create a safe space but there is not much time. It has begun. The alliance of the three has been forged and their plan has started. They were able to find and destroy the protectors across the Realm and you are the last of them. I have used my magic to keep you shielded from them but the time has come where I can no longer shield you. I must awaken your powers for they will help you in the fight against the three. “
  Mystra waves her hands and you can feel the power inside you grow. Your mark begins to glow and deep down inside you can feel your new awaken power.
  “I have notified my alliance to the dangers of the three. They can assist you but they cannot face them as you can. Valna, your father found out your fate and died trying to protect you from it. You are the key to the relics of the protectors. The map of Ao will allow you to find to find those who oppose you. The book of Aethos will reveal itself to you when the time is right to find those relics. With these tools you will have the power to stop the three and protect the Realms from the Shadows they seek to pour into the world. Valna do not lose these to the three. They have been trying to obtain it from you since you were young and used those you care about to try to obtain it. The book of Aethos will point the way of finding book of Selu'taar.”
  You watch as Mystra doubles over in pain. She fights back the pain and looks to you, “this will be the last time I will be able to talk to you. They have torn the weave and time is short. Soon we will be reborn into the Realms. I must prepare myself,” Mystra says as she slowly releases the magic of the hut. You awake in your room with renewed purpose and power.
  Session Report:
The session started with the party waking up after having the dream like experience with Mystra with new energy and powers. Valna, after waking up, hears a lot of commotion from the tavern downstairs. Traveling down to the tavern, Valna finds the tavern full of patrons being served drinks and meals. Valna spots Nyx sitting at a table with Volo and makes her way over to the table. Sneachta comes upstairs from his room and takes in the crowd before grabbing a drink and makes his way over to Nyx, Volo and Valna.
  Volo, enjoying a meal and a drink with Nyx, seemed proud of himself boasting how he brought his friends to fill the Trollskull Manor on its grand opening. Volo greets Valna and Sneachta as they sit at the table with them. Volo tells Nyx he was able to obtain the mount she was looking for and it is in the small stable behind the manor. Valna gets up with Nyx and goes out to see Nyx’s new mount. Valna, expecting to see a horse, sees a large riding lizard. Hesitating for a moment, Valna decides to pet it before return they return to Volo. Nyx, happy with the mount, thanks Volo for his gesture. Volo smiles and tells them he takes good care of his friends. Volo then turns to Sneachta and said he knows what he is looking for and needs. After talking with him and thought his book was worthless, Volo tells Sneachta he looked long and far but found Sneactha the right one. He tells one of his friends to bring in Starzuild. His friend leaves and enters the tavern with a female goblin wearing fine goblin wear. She comes over to the table and Volo introduces Starzuild or “Stars” as he chuckles to Sneachta as Starzuild has known to make people to see stars. Volo tells Sneachta he needed a woman to help soothe his grumpiness of losing his horn. Starzuild winks to Sneachta and tells him how she likes him. Valna witnessing the interacting is slightly mortified. Sneachta, taking Starzuild with him, headed downstairs to “polish his horn and dirty his room.”
  Volo smiles and says,” another friend happy means Volo is happy.” He turns to Valna and notices Valna slight discomfort. He asks Valna if she needs a companion because she looked to be in rough shape judge by the dirt and blood on her armor. Volo tells Valna he can get a man for Valna, but changes his answer to a woman or four legged creature when Valna recoiled in disgust. Valna polite declines Volo offer saying she is good in that department. Volo changes gears and asks if Valna needs a mount as well. Valna said she was interested and Volo continued. Volo offered to get Valna a happy horse, a sad horse, a big horse or a small horse. Valna told Volo she would be interested in a happy horse and Volo told her he will see what he can do. Volo, noticing Barnibus Blastwind entering the tavern with Saeth Cormley, turns to Nyx and says “I wonder who is in trouble with the law?” Barnibus and Saeth make their way to the table with Nyx, Valna and Volo. Barnibus asks Valna if she could answer some questions. Valna slightly uneasy with their presence agrees. Barnibus sits at the table while Nyx offered him some food. Barnibus declines the food stating he had a small amount of time and wanted to make sure he had time for Valna. Barnibus asks Valna if she was involved with an incident at Gralhund Villa. Valna stated she was in fact there and went on to tell Barnibus they were in the area and heard cries for help. When they arrived, they noticed the guards were dead and went to assist the family of the villa. She stated she left just before the city watch arrived. Barnibus seem satisfied with her answers and affirmed she is not in trouble at this time because Lady Yalah Gralhund did not want an investigation. He had to honor her wishes but was trying to check and see if there was any other information he could find. He thanked Valna for her time and departs with Saeth.
  After having his horn polished, Sneachta remembered having possession of two false books and a locked family book he took from Gralhund Villa, went back upstairs to see if anyone could open them wearing nothing but a towel. He returned to the table with Volo, Valna and Nyx. Nyx told him she could open the locks and opens the items for Sneachta. One of the books contains gems while the other held a ring. Sneachta took the ring and put it on. After putting on the ring, Sneachta began to fly. He hovered up above the table in eye sight of everyone. When he lifted off the ground his towel got caught on the table revealing himself to everyone at the table to much of Valna’s disgust. Sneachta excused himself and returned to his room to make sure it was dirty enough and to get dressed.
  Nyx and Valna reviewed the family book of Yalah Gralhund. It discussed how the family began as simple shop owners and made deals and double crosses to obtain minor noble status. Yalah was not happy when she wasn't picked as a masked lord. Yalah is part of a Cult of Asmodeus, the Lord of the Nine Hells. She is helping her leader and mentor Lady Ammalia Cassalanter. Nyx asked Volo if he knew if the Cassalanter had a vault or crypt. He tells Nyx the Cassalanter has a mausoleum in the City of the Dead in Waterdeep. He also states he knows the head keeper of the grounds and can get them access if they need it.
  Getting ready to leave for the City of the Dead, Valna goes downstairs to find Sneachta kicking out Starzuild of his room. Starzuild sees Valna and she waves to Valna while saying hi. Valna is repulsed to see Starzuild had feces all over her hands. Sneachta chucks and said she was dirtying up his room for him. Valna quickly returned to Nyx vowing never to go down and get Sneachta again. Sneachta returns upstairs with Starzuild as Starzuild happily screeches she just got done polishing Sneachta’s horn to much cheers from the tavern. The rest of the party link up with Volo, Nyx and Valna and depart the tavern.
  On their way to the City of the Dead, Sneachta stops at the House of Heroes which is the church of Tempus in Waterdeep. Sneachta pays a donation to the church and receives a blessing for the party. Sneachta also acquires some holy water. Moving on from the church, the party arrives at the City of the Dead. Volo pulls the cord at the gate and a balding man in robes exits the building next to the gate. Sneachta recognizes the man as the same one who was speaking to the dead after the explosion near the Trollskull Manor the other day. Volo introduces the man as Ambrose Everdawn, a servant of Kelemvor. Volo tells Ambrose about how he told his friends about the City of the Dead and they wanted to see the Cassalanter’s mausoleum as it is very ornate. Ambrose lets Volo finish his tale and allows the party to enter stating they need to be out by night fall before returning to his cottage by the gate. Volo wishes them luck and returns to the Trollskull Manor.
  The party travels to the center of the City of the Dead and finds the Cassalanter’s mausoleum. Nyx pulls out Nim’s device and it shows the puppet creature is here at the mausoleum. While Nyx is checking the door, Valna tells Sneachta he couldn’t open the door which gets Sneachta wild up. Sneachta charges the door just as Nyx finishes picking the lock. With a loud thud, Sneachta breaks the large stone doors off its hinges. Proud of himself he turns back to Valna and smiles. The party searches the upper floor of the mausoleum and notices foot prints in the dust leading down the stairs below. The party travels down to the lower level and finds the puppet creature destroyed and three bodies lying on the ground in dark red robes. They check the bodies and finds the two males are dead and the female is barely alive. Nyx heals the female and she slowly regains concisions. She looks around and sees one of the male bodies and grows angry. She tells the party her name is Vaelle Lurval and she is part of the Cult of Asmodeues. She was here with her boyfriend and others to obtain the Stone of Golorr but they were betrayed by two of the other members. She tells the party she knows where they were going with the stone and offer to take them there if they will kill the two who betrayed her. The party agrees and leaves the mausoleum with Vaelle.
  Vaelle leads the party outside of Waterdeep to an old windmill. She tells the party they were to pass off the stone to one of Lady Cassalanter’s contacts. The party tells Vaelle they will hand it and tell her to return to Waterdeep. Nyx scouts the windmill and finds out the people they are looking for are on the top floor. The party decides to enter the windmill through the ground floor and made their way through a backdoor of the mill. The party was able to locate a staircase going up. Sneachta decided he would fly outside and follow the party up the stair case. As the party made their way to the second floor of the mill, Nyx and Valna heard voices behind a closed door. The voices were speaking in Inferno as one voice told the others Asmodeus thanks them before there were cries of death. Outside Sneachta heard the noise and flew over to investigate. As he rounds the side of the mill, he sees two bone devils outside a hole in the wall. Sneachta took one of his vials of holy water and throws it at one of the bone devils. The vial connects with the bone devil but does nothing but gets their attention. The two bone devils fly out the hole and chase Sneachta as he ducks into a side window. He watches as one of the bone devils follows him in and attacks him. Outside the door, Valna and Nyx kick in the door and scramble into the room. Inside was a bone devil standing over two bodies of the cultists which were torn apart. It turns and attempts to fly out the window when Valna smites evil and connects with it. Cannella charges into the room raging as he hits the bone devil. Nyx closes the gap and hits the bone devil hard. Trying to fly away the bone devil gets airborne but fails to defend itself as Valna and Cannella hit it again. Nyx spot an opening and hits the bone devil hard causing it to be briefly stunned allowing Valna and Cannella to hit it again. The bone devil loses its lift and falls sideways as Nyx to decapitate it. The body falls backwards out of the hole and to the ground below.
  Sneachta trying to hold his own with the bone devil takes several hits which staggers him. Cora enters the room and summons a flaming sword which attacks the bone devil. Iris moves up and gets a hit on bone devil as it drops Sneachta. Friac enters the room and unleashes his breath weapon as Cora heals Sneachta. Valna, hearing the battle, charges into the room swinging her longsword wildly. Slipping on Sneachta’s blood, Valna hits her head with the flat side of her sword stunning her. Stunned, Valna watches as the bone devil turns its attention towards her and unleashes a deadly attack. Valna, after taking a blow which pierces her armor and heart, falls to the ground barely holding on to life. Cora heals Valna as Nyx, just arriving in the room, attacks the bone devil. With the assistance of Friac and Cannella, Nyx drops the bone devil and the party watches as the other bone devil leaves deciding it was not worth taking the risk.
  After helping Cora provide more healing to Sneachta and Valna, Nyx travelled downstairs and searches the bone devil which fell to the ground. She finds the Stone of Golorr. After interacting with it, Nyx finds out the stone has an intelligence and wants to consume knowledge. It is willing to share some of its knowledge if asked but it seemed not happy it was not able to consume some of Nyx’s knowledge. The party collects some of the bones from the bone devils and makes their way back to Waterdeep. On the way back, Sneachta stops at the House of Heroes to see if the church could assist him with fights against devils in the future. They tell Sneatcha the will look to see if they can assist and will get back to him.
  Tired, the party arrives back at the Trollskull Manor. Volo sees the party enter and calls them over. Seeing Valna in rough shape, Volo offers to buy her a drink. Valna agrees and Volo orders her one of Lif’s famous drinks. The drink arrives and Volo marvels at the different colors which were perfectly layered. Valna confidently downs the drink saying how she has a high constitution towards alcohol. The drink hits Valna hard causing the room to spin and Valna to lose her balance. Lying on the floor defeated, Nyx picked up a drunken Valna and takes her up to her room and into her bed. Valna watches as Allistar walks over to her and begins to whine. Valna goes to tell him it is ok when Allistar talks to her. Confused and not know if it was the alcohol, Valna has a talk with Allistar before falling asleep.
  Nyx pulls out the Stone of Golorr and asks it about the treasure. It tells Nyx the vault is located under Tessalar's Tower in the Sea Ward. It tells Nyx in order to open the vault door, she will need a dwarf play “Your Bearded Face” while a beardless dwarf touches the door. She would then need to pour some dwarven ale on the door to open it. The treasure is guarded by a dwarf by the name of Barok Clanghammer.
  The next morning, Nyx collects the party and convinces one chefs at the Trollskull Manor who is a dwarf to help her. The party is able to track down Tessalar's Tower and enters it. In the basement the party finds a teleport circle. Using the teleport circle, the party is transported in front of a large vault door with dwarven runes on it. Following the information from the stone, the dwarven chef pulls out his bagpipes and begins to play “Your Bearded Face”. It takes him a few minutes before the first set of runes begin to glow. The party shaves the beard of the dwarf and he touches the door causing the second set of runes to glow. The party then pours dwarven ale on the door causing the door to open revealing a huge vault.
  After exploring the vault, they came to a room where the dwarven runes tells one has to reveal a secret never told before. Valna tells the party how she lost her only true love causing a trap door to open. The party makes their way down into the main vault chamber. Here they see a huge stack of gold. As they approach the gold, a dwarf with a staff appears. He claims to be the guardian and says his name is Barok. Valna appeals to Barok stating how the gold he is guarding is stolen and they are here to retrieve the gold for the rightful owners. Barok tells Valna he will turn the gold over to her but only if he gets to keep the pile of gemstones and staff as they were promised to him. The party agrees and watches Barok transform into a golden adult dragon named Aurinax. It collects the gem stones and flies away with the staff. The party decides to talk to Renaer about whom to turn the gold over to.
  End of session.

Experience for the session: 4050xp. Party's total experience to date: 9,546xp. With the experience from this session, everyone should level up to level 4.

Notes

Key Findings:
  • Lady Yalah Gralhund is part of the Cult of Asmodeus and she is assist the leader of the cult Lady Ammalia Cassalanter to obtain the Stone of Golorr.
  • Lady Yalah Gralhund was working with the Zhentarian to help position herself better with the nobles of Waterdeep.
  • The Cult of Asmodeus had an agreement with the Zhentarian. They were working on an unknown project together.
  • The amount of dragons which were embezzled was double the amount.
  • Lady Ammalia Cassalanter wanted the stolen gold for an unknown purpose.
