The Guardians - Time of Trouble 2nd Cycle
Summary
During the second cycle a group of protectors which were known as the Guardians fought against the Dark Three (Cyric, Shar and Set) and their destroyers, known as the Corruptors. The Dark Three, having learned from the mistakes during the first cycle, created a plan to have some of their divine powers born into the Realms. They created godlngs for their mortal forms with their divine powers in a bid to avoid detection from Ao.
The Dark Three plan was to create a gate which connected the Realms with the Realmspace. They discovered a Guardian, who was a twin, bore the divine mark of Ao. They used their influence to twist her and doubt her friends turning against them. With the power of the Guardian on their side, the Dark Three was going to use the Guardian as a vessel to force all the gods out of Realmspace through the gate in moral forms. With their powers already in the Realms, the Dark Three would have their powers to use against the defenseless gods in their mortal form. With the destruction of the gods, the Dark Three could release Bane from his prison. The Dark Three needed to find a powerful source to fuel the gate.
The Dark Three and the Corruptors set upon finding the source of life where magic is at the rawest form to power their gate to the Realmspace. The source where all life begins is at an unknown mystical grove overlooked by the Grandfather Tree. During this cycle, the Grandfather Tree spoke to one of the Guardians and made him the Keeper of the Tree. The Guardian swore to protect the Grandfather Tree and aided the other Guardians against the Dark Three.
The Guardians were able to prevent the Dark Three from finding the Grandfather tree and found the location of the gate on an island in the Fallen Sea. The Guardians confronted the Dark Three as they attempted to use the corrupted Guardian to open the gate. During the fierce battle, the Guardians were able to destroy the gate. With the gate closed, Ao appeared to punish those who violated the order of the gods. Shar grabbed the corrupt Guardian and disappeared with Cyric leaving Set to take the blame. Despite being told others had helped Set, Ao only bestowed the full punishment against him stripping him of his godhood and to be banished. With Set receiving punishment from Ao Bane was granted release from his prison.
Ao granted the Guardians a wish for their actions in stopping the Dark Three. It is rumored by several scholars one of the Guardians wished they live out the rest of their life in peace and anonymity.

Historical Basis
While there are historical records outlining the second cycle of the Times of Troubles the whole history of events are incomplete as if they were erased by time and memories.
