Protogen

One of the largest security contractors in the system, Protogen was station security for several large stations throughout the Belt, most notably Eros.
After the Eros Incident revealed the company's role in the murder of millions, the UN tore the corporation apart piece by piece. Almost immediately it was found that the security contractor aspect of Protogen was mostly a front. Research and development was where its real focus was, with the biological weapon that destroyed Eros being its sole focus.

Disbandment

After the Protogen feeds on Eros were made public, it became clear almost immediately that the corporation had been responsible not only for the deaths of the 1.5 million inhabitants of Eros, but also for the Belt-Mars and Mars-Earth wars. The UN leapt at the opportunity to end the conflict and began criminal proceedings within days of the discovery.
While many that had been personally involved in the Eros Incident and other attacks have been arrested, many of those who had been found innocent (or were low enough in the structure that they were not considered worth the effort) left the industry, hiding themselves from public view for fear of reprisal.
