Bedlam Asylum

Bedlam Asylum is the high security prison of the Inquisition kept under the guise of a hospital. Inmates are often the victim of experiments in the laboratories within the system of vaults beneath the building.

History

Bedlam Castle is one of the few stone constructions dating from before the Okean Elves came to rule Altimatia . Early Firbolg and human tribes roamed the western part of the continent and Bead the Bold, a human chieftain, is said to have built Bedlam on a rocky hill declaring himself king of the West. For centuries afterwards, the castle was an uninhabited ruin, though an occasional stopover for travelling gnomes.   It wasn't until the Seastorm, when most of the western cliffs crumbled into the sea, that the strategic value of Bedlam presented itself as a rocky island in the newly formed "Bedlam Bay." The Cragganmen sent boats to the Island and built a prison onto the castle ruins to house the leaders of rival clansmen. The rooms would hold a level of respect and grandure that Craggan Nobility could be imprisoned in.   It remained this way until the fall of Craggan that the island fell into official disuse. However, lights were often sighted from the island and many rumours of hauntings were passed around. It wasn't until after the glorious revolution that Bedlam returned to its purpose as a prison for those deemed tainted by The Imperial Inquisition.
