Lunar Flock

Followers of the Moon

Written by Endrise

Everyone keeps naming them after divine followers or historical figures. I just like to give them cute nicknames and base some of my cats.

The Lunar Flock is a collection of asteroids chasing Fabulae's Moon. Chunks of its surface that broke off long ago, following the path of the celestial body as well.

Broken Moon

The large group of moon rocks are always visible from one side, regardless where one stands on the planet. From wagon-sized chunks to pieces big enough to eclipse cities, as of date astronomers counted up to one-hundred fifty individual bits chasing the moon itself.

There is a lot of speculation what caused this flock to form. Common theories believe it to be of a large impact with another celestial body long ago, or remains that never fused during its formation. More elaborate theories suggest its damage was from the Tri-Realm War, where Angels and Demons clashing tore apart the moon's surface. Nobody is sure what is the truth.

Mythical Followers

As one of the most visible objects in the night sky, the Lunar Flock shares a lot of mythos with moon-related legends. These often come with connecting them with followers, pets or something else related to the moon's personification. Some even see them seeking to destroy the moon.

Other stories like to connect the asteroids with scars and wounds from deities. Eye-related markings are a common element of their stories, destroyed in battle or by accident.

Though there are countless other tales told related to the rocks chasing the moon.

Despite the flock being more well known, the Moon also has a small asteroid belt. Too thin to be visible with the naked eye, debris circles around the celestial object's orbit.

Speculation believes it to come from the same impact that caused the Lunar Flock. Most myths associate it with a ring the deity wears, often given by the stand-ins of the flock itself. Either as a gift or even to remember someone's loss forever.
