Crumble Rot

Crumble rot is an illness found in the Fae Realm. It cannot kill a Fae but will leave them horribly deformed. It's most common symptom is a crusty black layer on the skin that can form into mouldy protrusions.

Transmission & Vectors

Transmission via insect bite. Insect unknown as it has been traced to multiple species but not every insect within those species transmits the rot.

Causes

The rot has been traced to a certain fungi called Shrig however coming into contact with this mushroom or any of it's spores does not cause the rot. Only bites from insects that have fed from or had long term contact with the Shrig can cause the rot.

Symptoms

Black crust on the skin that grows into larger protrusions. Whilst this crust is evident, the Fae is left weak, nauseous and sickly.
These symptoms can last for months or even years.
Eventually, the crust and lumps fall away taking chunks of skin and occasionally organs or limbs with it.
After the fae is left permanently deformed, unable to heal the rotted areas due to a remainder of the illness their system that never leaves and stays latched onto the edges of the deformed area.

Treatment

There is no treatment to cure the rot but it can be contained from spreading around the body if caught early enough. This is done with healing spells but it is rare to catch the rot fast enough to restrict the rot from reaching multiple areas of the body.
Eventually the illness dies off.
