Wraithine

The Wraithine is a beast found in the Southern Territories and is the  incorporeal at will.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Wraithine resembles a horse is most aspects. The only differences are that its form is ghostly in appearance and the horse skull over its face. All Wraithine are spectral white and grey in colour.

Biological Traits

All Wraithine are spectral white and grey in colour.
However there are rare occasions of a variant Wraithine such as a Fire Wraithine or a Skeletal Wraithine. These are made by horses who died under circumstances other than age, such as by fire or starvation. These Wrathine will have physical traits related to their deaths such as flaming eyes, mane and tail and leaving burning hoofprints or a spectral form that resembles a horse skeleton rather than a living horse.

Ecology and Habitats

The Wraithine run in herds through the South where they seem unbothered by the rivers of lava or the scorching heats. However they are just as at home in a domesticated environment and take well to having riders.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They never eat and only seem to have the biological need of sleep. Long stretches without being allowed to sleep in their skulls can lead to a faster deterioration of their skull.

Behaviour

Wraithine are loyal beasts. They will allow multiple riders but tend to latch onto one or two specific individuals and will actively attack or shun those they think are disliked by those individuals.

Additional Information

Domestication

The Wraithine has been domesticated for as long as Fae have lived in the South. They take the place that mortal horse would in a human medieval society, acting as the backbone of transport and travel across the land.
There is a trade is catching and taming wild Wraithine that still roam free in the Territory as it is a commonly accepted fact that there will never be a point where wild Wraithine no longer exist.
The process of catching a Wraithine must be done when the beast is outside its skull. If not and the Wraithine is taken when sleeping then when it awakes it will be feral and will never bow to a rider.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Wraithine has no magic other than the fact that it is a ghost. It is possessing its own skull, allowing it to take its former shape. Because of this it can switch between solid and immaterial when awake and when sleeping, retreats back into the skull.
