Gates

The gates are places where you can cross over from the fae realm into another. Each joins two fixed points together. They are wrinkles in the fabric of the realm, where it overlapps with another. While most gates are between the fae realm and the human realm, there are gates to other realms deeper in the forest.
evan/Uvanli is the Guardian of the Gates. It is his responsibility to ensure that these aren't misused by the fae for their enjoyment. He also looks after them and ensures that they are in working order.
While they are invisible to the naked eye, each gate gives off vibrations behind the forest. With your eyes closed you can use your inner sight to sense these and unfocus to find them. They are invisible to anyone looking in the real world, but underneath they are a gaping bubble.
Royal fae are able to use the gates, once they have learnt to sense them. Other fae find it more difficult.
Herne has found 38 gates in the forest, mostly to the human realm. There might be more deeper in the forest. No one from the other realms ever uses them.
The only way to know what is on the other side of a gate it to go through it. So be cautious. Don’t go through unknown gates unless you are certain that is what you need to do. Most gates exist between the faery and human realms. I haven’t heard of any gates within the human realm to the other realms, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
The gate was invisible to anyone looking in the real world. To those who could see what was underneath, it formed a gaping bubble.

Close your eyes and feel for the forest round you. Sense the boundaries and shifting allegiances. See the trees without your eyes. Then see what is behind the trees
