Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a broad term applied to intelligence created by humans, usually placed inside a computer or another construct of some sort.

Utility

AI is used for many different things, most of them for work-related purposes such as construction, laundry, healthcare, or restaurant service. A significant subset of AI used by the human government are strictly for combat and strategy.

Manufacturing

AI is produced by human labs under the watch of the human government. They have final say on whether an AI can or cannot be released to the public, and many projects never see the light of day.

Social Impact

Many people have grown fond of their AI, despite the government's insistence on staying distant. Although the current AI do not have the ability to want or need anything other than what they were designed for, the government, and a portion of civilians, fear that one day, AI might become too intelligent and rise up against the human government. Therefore, any and all AI are strictly regulated, and any tampering or altering of any AI produced by the government is a crime, often with severe consequences.
Inventor(s)
AI was developed long before the Great War, by humans asking a simple question: "Can we create life?" Many researchers and corporations rushed to become the first to develop AI, and it wasn't long before a few of them succeeded, creating AI robots that could help humans in their everyday lives. Shortly after the boom in AI, the human government stepped in and assumed control of all AI operations, producing the line of AI designed for combat, strategy, and the military. Other AI are still produced regularly, but combat remains the focus of AI for now.
Access & Availability
AI is common in human homes, present in their vacuums or as an assistant robot, there to help with every day tasks like doing the laundry.
Complexity
Artificial intelligence's complexity varies wildly by purpose. Some of the most complex AI are owned by the human government and cannot be used by the general public. Limited AI are present in other areas like mining or automatic turrets. Artificial intelligence that the human government deems "dangerous" are sought out and destroyed before they gain a mind of their own.
Discovery
Artificial intelligence was discovered many years before the Great War, and had been nearly perfected by the first days of combat. Initially, artificial intelligence was used for creation and assistance, such as writing, brainstorming, helping the elderly, finding new forms of music or art, etc. However, the human government wasn't satisfied with just these uses, and soon after, assumed control of all companies and researchers associated with producing AI. Once they acquired the technology, the government ordered the researchers to start producing AI that could design weapons and plan combat strategy, and many researchers left the project at this, seeing their life's work used for something they thought was against their morals. Those who stayed were paid handsomely, and within a few years, AI had progressed to the point where it became almost necessary for combat and war in general. The human government has never allowed artificial intelligence to progress beyond a certain point however; any artificial intelligence deemed to have its own wants and desires has been destroyed within days, preventing a potential AI uprising.
