Energy weapons are a Human invention, primarily used by the human military.
Energy weapons come in two forms: melee weapons and ranged weapons.

Like power armor, all energy weapons are created on a mostly-autonomous assembly line, with only a few human overseers to ensure everything is going well.

Energy weapons were able to greatly increase humanity's offensive capabilities in the Great War, forcing the non-humans to go on the defensive.

Access & Availability

Energy weapons are used primarily by the human government and its army, and is illegal for normal citizens to own. Therefore, it is extremely rare and difficult to obtain.

Complexity

Similar to power armor, all energy weapons are created with a metallic-plastic alloy that prevents any magic from affecting them (up to a certain threshold). Energy weapons come in two forms:

• Melee energy weapons are similar to standard weapons like swords and axes, with one key difference: their blades are made entirely from energy. Energy combat knives are the most commonly-used energy melee weapon. Combat knives, when inactive, appear to be a handle with no blade. When switched on, the blade erupts from the handle: an extremely bright, glowing blue knife blade with a serrated edge. Energy melee weapons are self-sharpening and have the equivalent of a mono-filament edge, allowing them to cut through almost anything at a molecular level.
• Ranged energy weapons are similar to traditional human firearms, which were phased out when these new weapons were invented. Ranged energy weapons discharge extremely tight, short "bullets" of the same energy that makes up melee weapons. Ranged energy weapons most desirable trait is they never run out of ammunition, thanks to an unknown internal mechanism that generates the energy required for its ammo.

Unlike power armor, there are no failsafes in place to prevent any random individual from picking up the weapon and using it. However, there are failsafes that ensure any mentally unstable individual, such as a potential murderer, cannot use the weapon; regardless of whether they are human or not. Although limited, energy weapons have an AI that is able to scan anyone making physical contact with the weapon and assess their mental state. If the weapon deems the person unfit for combat or use, the weapon will not activate/fire.

Discovery

Energy weapons were developed several years before power armor. In the early years of the war, humans realized they needed better weaponry against non-humans; weapons that couldn't be manipulated or disabled by magic. With the help of artificial intelligence, they produced these energy weapons; weapons that could discharge a certain type of energy, unaffected by magic in the slightest. The energy produced by the weapons was a bright, glowing blue, capable of penetrating almost anything. It wasn't long before the weapons became standard-issue and were given to every human soldier.
