The Lake of Dreams
The Lake of Dreams, known for the glass-like stillness of the waters and the soul bound to it at the bottom of the lake is located in the Summer Court of the Feywild. Much of the lake is shrouded in mystery, contradicting rumors swirling all over the realm and whispered in the corners of each court. Some say the spirit of a succubus lies in wait at the bottom, patiently waiting for potential victims to feed off. Others say it is a fey spirit of nature that has been cursed to wander for eternity alone, so as to deal with its grief created the lake to lure in visitors to keep it company. There's also a rumor that it was once a fey queen that had been driven mad with grief and drowned itself in the lake, the intensity of its sorrow causing it to imbue part of it's soul into the water.
The lady is not the only inhabitant of this lake, Razcoreth, also known as the Whispering Wyrm, keeps watch over this section of the Emerald Forest. His purpose is to judge the visitors coming to benefit from the powers of the lake and to defeat those who hold ill will towards the lake and its lady. He has the typical temperament of a forest dragon; he's elusive and will avoid sentient creatures unless necessary. Though protective he is not known to be overly hostile. He will not seek out conversation but will gladly entertain it with any visitors to his domain.
The truth is not as fantastical as some of the more outrageous rumors. Daenys Evenglow, a Star Elf sorceress, is the source of this lake's mystical powers and the creator of Razcoreth's level of sentience. Caught in a battle with the corrupted archfey Minaeve, Daenys had not been killed, instead her powers and soul became intertwined with the lake. Racoreth had been a forest dragon that resided in the forest. Soon after her entrapment, he'd found the lake and drank from the water. A piece of Daenys became imbued with him, granting him magic but also linking the two's life forces. One cannot exist without the other. if she were to free herself or the guardian were to abandon it's post, they would both die.
While few visitors came to this spot, the ones that did were brought by the grief that weighted them down and the wish to diminish it. After judgment from Razcoreth and being judged worthy, the visitors may be released from their sorrow. Whether they live or die after such an experience is unknown however. Which makes visiting the lake an even more daunting task.
So for now it rests in the heart of the Summer Court, awaiting the next worthy champion.
Fauna & Flora
This is the only spot in The Feywild where a specific flower known as Lady's Sorrow grows. These blooms cover the perimeter of the water and have a faint glow. They almost seem to droop, even when fully watered, almost mimicking the downtrodden mannerism of someone rife with sorrow. When drinking it's nectar it temporarily eases your mind of any pain leaving your with a euphoric bliss that's short-lived.
