Circle of the Nine
The faith of the people of Ladren.
Mythology & Lore
The people of Ladren believe that in the time before the world existed, there was a war between the gods for control of existence. The Light gods won, but in doing so were exterminated while in victory the Dark gods were banished to the underworld. It is these Dark gods that the people of Ladren worship in the hope that through sacrifice and offerings of blood they can convince them not to rise back into the world of the living and take their revenge on the children of the Light.
Cosmological Views
The religion believes in the existence of two worlds - the world of the living, and the world of the dead. The world of the living was created from the bones of the Light gods as their bodies rotted after the war against the Dark, and the world of the dead was created with the dying breaths of the Light gods to imprison the Dark gods.
Worship
Priesthood
Each god of the Nine has their own priesthood with numerous trials, tasks and qualifications needed to ascend to the rank of High Priest. Ruling over all of them, however, is the Archpriest of the Nine who resides in the Grand Temple in Yther.
Sects
Each god has their own cult dedicated to them, ruled over by a High Priest. None of the cults get on particularly well, and there has been a running war going on for overall control of dogma and faith - and ultimately political power - for several generations, without any hope of an end any time soon. Some say that this conflict has been fanned by the Cult of Otian as that is exactly the sort of discord and strife that he thrives on and is an act of worship to him.
