Cult of Udlan
Structure
Under the High Priest Tynan Silius are an assortment of lower priests who only nominally report to him, and then the throngs of the faithful below them. The Cult of Udlan is easily the most disorganised and decentralised cult of the Nine, mirroring rather perfectly the general aspect of their god. That said, like the changing nature of both Udlan and the sea, they have been known to come together when needed to commit acts of wanton violence and savagery.
Mythology & Lore
The people of Ladren believe that in the time before the world existed, there was a war between the gods for control of existence. The Light gods won, but in doing so were exterminated while in victory the Dark gods were banished to the underworld. It is these Dark gods that the people of Ladren worship in the hope that through sacrifice and offerings of blood they can convince them not to rise back into the world of the living and take their revenge on the children of the Light.
The Cult of Udlan specifically believes that their chosen god is the most dangerous of the Dark Court due to his uncaring nature, as well as believing he has the power to wipe the Realms from the face of the world with the snap of his fingers if he so desires as water surrounds them completely. They see him as a dark, faceless figure with lank, dripping hair and moldering robes and a crown of twisted driftwood and coral.
Divine Origins
The Cult of Udlan sprang up among the fishermen of Unrouth following a particularly brutal storm that saw the majority of the city destroyed. While he had been worshiped before, as one of the Nine, the founding of the cult brought him into the light in his own right.
Tenets of Faith
There aren't really any unified tenets of faith for the Cult of Udlan. Generally speaking, each single worshiper is bound only by what they think Udlan might find amusing in the moment, based on a snap decision or judgment rather than any deep thought. He is, after all, known for his arbitrary decision making in the moment.
Worship
The worship of Udlan, however it's done, involves either seawater or salt water in some way. While they are not above using the more conventional sacrificial knife in their rites and rituals - again, personal to each member of the faithful - the one thing that the cult can agree on is that all drownings are looked upon favourably by their god. As a result, the bay and canals of Unrouth tend to be fairly... crowded.
Priesthood
While there is technically a formal priesthood within the cult, it mostly serves a ceremonial purpose rather than any practical one. Sure, the High Priest has a seat on the Hieratic Council but that seat is only held by the perceived power of the cult in general - as there is no way to tell how many members the cult actually has - and by the potential power he possesses in and of himself.
Individual priests of Udlan tend to try to ape the generally agreed upon appearance of their god, and as a result they do a fairly solid job of standing out in a crowd. It is very, very rare to see them outside of Ladren as a result.
