Captain-Major

Captain-Major is a special military rank held by the commander of the Ducal Guard of each Duchy. They are well respected by those nobles of a military tact, and they hold the ear of their Duke or Duchess on all military matters.

• The Captain-Major of Frostryme Duchy is Sir Krena Draugor, a dour man known for brutal efficiency.
• The Captain-Major of Berelond Duchy is Baron Blys Braster, a boisterous man known for throwing lavish gatherings.
• The Captain-Major of Dalishae Duchy is Lord Emil Maritan, an honorable man known for his sense of competition.
• The Captain-Major of Vindemia Duchy is Baroness Lorencia Redhawk, a graceful woman known for her indomitable will.
• The Captain-Major of Fellmire Duchy is Lord Taiman Mohado, a crafty man known for his tactical mind.

Requirements

• Member of the Ducal Guard in their Duchy (sometimes is a recent commission)
• Holds Noble rank (born or raised are both acceptable)

Appointment

• The Duke (or Duchess) directly appoints the chosen individual, and raises them to their new rank in a ceremony of investiture. 
• In some Duchies a member of the clergy will conduct the investiture while the Duchess (or Duke) holds witness.

Duties

• Protect and advise their Liege
• Command the Ducal Guard
• Protect the Ducal Residence

Responsibilities

• Confer with their Captains on the daily operations of the Ducal Guard
• Inspect and inspire the soldiers of the Ducal Guard
• Be prepared for war and conflict
• Avoid war and conflict

Benefits

• Respect of peers

A Loremaster must find a way to tell their Duke, "Yes, Your Grace." A Captain-Major must often tell their Duke, "No, Your Grace." Not a conversation I envy them.
