Mist Lake
Located just beyond the eastern edge of the Dalishae Duchy. An impressively large lake, nearly 40 miles across in some places, and mostly surrounded by hills, Mist Lake is filled by three grand waterfalls, and is wrapped in a persistent and peculiar fog. Strange things happen along the banks of this lake. It is a commonly held belief that something strange lies beneath its surface. Many expeditions to explore this lake have never returned. Locals, of course, consider the lake to be cursed. Being that no known settlement has survived being established within fifteen miles of the lake's shoreline, "local" may be a bit of a misnomer.
Geography
The most notable feature in the area, after a lake that stretches nearly 40 miles across in some places, and is also covered by an arcane mist, is the three grand waterfalls that feed the lake. Beyond that, there are lots of hills and small mountains to the north and east, and lots of trees and plains to the south and west.
Localized Phenomena
A strange impenetrable mist cover the lake. The mist's consistency is clearly of mystical origin, and not a natural effect derived from the three great waterfalls that feed the lake, as some scholars who never leave their ivory towers wrongheadedly believe. People who have encountered the mist, and lived to tell the tale, report hearing strange moans and cries coming from the depths of the mist. Some have even claimed to hear voices conversing in some oddly painful language.
Fauna & Flora
The plant life surrounding the lake seems typical for the area, although overgrown from the high humidity from the unnatural mist. The lake itself contains large gatherings of a kelp-like plant that has yet to be categorized.
Beasts, both natural and unnatural, make their home around the lake. And stranger creatures have been known to wander out of the surrounding hills.
The fish-life within the lake is largely unknown, but it is clear that many things that live beneath the surface of the lake have big sharp teeth, and are very willing to use them on the unwary.
Natural Resources
The hills surrounding Mist Lake are rich in minerals and ores that have yet to be fully exploited because of the uncategorized dangers that are so prevalent in the area.
I went there once when I was younger. It is quite the sight to see. Preferably at some distance if you remain fond of living.
