Okashima

Okashima is a volcanic island that is home to the largest population of Jōmon after they were forced to flee Fusō from the invading Yayoi over a thousand years ago. The local leader is Kamuy, the maternal grandfather of Furuyama no Shigenori. The latter would spend a year on the island in 569 attempting to persuade Kamuy to aid him in retaking Izumo Province from his treacherous paternal relatives. In return for his help, Ryujiro promises the people that they may resettle in Izumo as he fears the increasing eruptions will make the island uninhabitable entirely.

Okashima is the name of the island in the Yayoi language. The native Jōmon population use the name Oyakoba.

Geography

Okashima is a small volanic island. The volcano is active, with small but frequent eruptions of ash plumes. It stands at aproximately 2,200 meters above sea level. The western face of the volcano collapsed into the sea thousands of years ago.
