Sunrise & Sunset

Fusō is commonly called 'the Land of the Rising Sun'. This is because the sun famously rises from the west of the island before setting in the east at the end of each day. There are no known lands beyond The Blue Abyss - the great ocean that lies west of Fusō - so the people hold the sun in great regard. The Kinoshita Clan in particular consider themselves to be the blessed children of the sun itself - the kami Ōhirume no Muchi. Conversely, the sun sets far to the east, beyond the vast region of Ruomu.

Legends

Fusō

Ōhirume no Muchi no Kami, one of the Amatsukami, and one of the ten patron deities of Jū-kinai, is the personifcation of the sun. Ama-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, is the goddess of the dawn.   Following a feud with her brother, Kushimikenu-no-Mikoto, Ōhirume no Muchi hid herself away in a cave causing the world to plunge into darkness. Though many kami saught to coax Ōhirume no Muchi out of the cave in order to bring back the sun, it was Ama-no-Uzume who succeded. She performed a dance believed to be the first Kagura. Compelled by the commotion, Ōhirume no Muchi peered out of the cave where Ama-no-Uzume pleaded her return to the other kami. Ōhirume no Muchi agreed. And so the sun was brought back to skies, just as it does each morning at dawn.

Ruomu

In Rumon folklore, there are two divine trees of life. One to the west, and one to the east. Each day, a flock of ten three-legged ravens travel between the two trees, carrying the sun on their backs from the west tree to the east tree where they nest at night.
