Ignorance
A Plague of the Mind
This is an incredibly serious issue on the Flying Flux. Our world may shun ignorance, casting aside or mocking it with little repercussion, but when paired with the Law of Perception, this mindset becomes a dangerous force.
Causes
This is most often found in heavily polarized groups (i.e. the 'richest' and 'poorest') because of the one-sided environment they were raised in. Another possible way to contract it is through cognitive dissonance or just old-fashion denial. (Warning: the content marked as a "spoiler" is unnecessary and possibly offensive. Click with care.)
Show spoiler
Of course, there is always an exception and it would probably be worth mentioning the lone case of Ignorance surfacing as an STD in a Highland orgy. In fact, around ninety-three percent of sexually transmitted diseases originated this way.
Symptoms
Most complain. Others may become irrationally angry or egregiously self-righteous when the subject is brought to light, especially while around others who've been affected. If there is a conflict between two ignorant parties, it is critical to keep the both mutations separate to protect the host.
Treatment
Knowledge applied in heavily regulated amounts, however, the exact dose is specific to each individual. If the ignorance flares, too much information was given and immunity will begin to develop immediately unless something is done quickly. Another possible cure is experience, but most strains of ignorance will not respond to this treatment.
Prognosis
It almost always begins with misinformation somehow entering their stream of thought and settling in the subconscious processes. Those who don't regularly clean the outermost regions of their minds will usually adopt this disease as a fact, even if they know it to be otherwise. From there, it will gradually overtake one perspective after another until the host's mind is consumed with nothing but hatred and a confused confidence. Terminal cases will become susceptible to gaining power, which will only progress the ignorance further until death takes them and their legacy.
Prevention
The most effective way to prevent this is to keep a decently open mind, occasionally allowing other perspectives wash out some of the stagnating thoughts which could lead to ignorance. One of very few things left untouched by the Law of Perception is individuality, so no matter how you see someone else, they will not change.
Epidemiology
This is most commonly spread through regulated or false information, then catalyzed by exaggerated perspectives that negate real perspectives. A controlled epidemic has been in place for thousands of years to keep people satisfied with peace... or warring each other.
Cultural Reception
With ignorance comes power. If one genuinely believes themselves to be invincible, it will become true. While immortality is impossible, life can be greatly extended by changing one's own perception of time's effects. Such feats are typically welcomed as genius, when it usually is not. Unfortunately, merely believing you are a genius will change nothing since your thoughts are separate from such effects to preserve sanity.
