Interlude III: Alarafi Caravanserai Report
General Summary
Sitting bolt upright, a sheen of sweat on his brow and the rank smell of terror in his nose, Theophilus Chandler woke from a dream of eternally falling through the darkness of Abuthos surrounded by the agonized screams of his companions. He cried out for mercy in the darkness and a vision of Saint Stephanos had accused him of participating in sacrifices to Akhen-At-Im which had alienated him from the Ouranic gods. He instructs him to go to the monastery at the Adza Oasis where he might be able to redeem himself.
Alexandru directed the party to pile up all of the loot they had taken from the tomb and asked Teleptyon to scry for any items that might be magical. Alex did not add the Djeti diamond to the pile. The other party members said nothing and Alex stewed over whether they had not noticed or were plotting to take it. Teleptyon attuned himself with the flow of Ar and discovered that the three stone eggs, Gallineus’s dagger, the snake ring, and Kegho’s axe all glowed.
The party headed to the souk to sell their goods, but had a rough go of negotiating while not knowing the value of the items they carried. Alex purchased a merchant’s scale and spent some time assessing the value of their wares—including the fascinating diamond—before returning to the market knowing how significantly the merchant had tried to short-change them.
After selling off their items for 484gp Asbjørn headed off to drink some of his gold away and got into a knife fight over a bath girl. Alex returned to the tailor to get dressed in an understated but fine outfit. Kegho and Miniho both updated their looks with Miniho getting a spiked collar. Kegho went to the slave market and bought all of the Oameni slaves who he immediately freed. Teleptyon spent his time meditating and as his mind turned inward the messenger’s path was revealed to him
Having completed their business in the caravansarai they pack up Mercy the camel and head into the cool desert night toward the Monastery of Adza, Riven leading the way. Riven spots the oasis in the distance to the north east, but the sand is deep and the going is low.
The party was surprised by a scorpion and Theo was envenomed in the chaos. Asbjørn flew into a rage at having his sleep interrupted and dispatched the scorpion handily.
