The Forgotten City XXVII
General Summary
As the fighting began Riven stabbed at the necromancer, but he deftly stepped aside even in his lotus haze. Theo raised the standard of Legio XVIII as he hallowed the space around him, and felt the blessings of the clerical might of Old Rexa return to the blessed standard as he held it aloft. He commanded the ghastly Rexan soldiers to flee, and they did flee in great terror.
Teleptyon cried out the words on a scroll as a blast of fire flew from him and the scroll crumbled to ashes. As he reeled from the blast, Khufu suppplicated Xam commanded him to drop his macabre staff. Riven moved to stab at him again but was distracted by the realization that he had been at Lakham Tabab. The necromancer called them fools and warned that if he lost control of the shard of Reshpu's being that was being born into the world it would destroy them all. A black psuedopod reached through the black gaping void in the fabric of the world. The necromancer pulled out a codex and dodged out of the way as the psuedopod reached for him, melting the wall where he had been standing into formless nothingness.
Theo strode forward as the ghasts skirted the room attempting to stay as far as possible. They clawed at doors until he passed into the room enough that they could flee out the way he had come.
Knowing he would not survive the battle the necromancer warned them that the price of defeating him would be the lives of party members and he raised a wall of bones to block the path, trapping half the party in with the black shard of Reshpu. Teleptyon did hit him with the Rusati staff of power. The necromancer turned to Kegho, and as Kegho brought Wraithcleaver into the top of his skull, he cast a black curse upon him withering her physical strength. Even cursed, Kegho managed to sunder him.
Desperately searching for a path to reach the voice of his cousin Herk, Khufu ran into and loudly cursed another of the thick stone doors. Alex's keen Oameni hearing picked up his wail and the rogue ran, still covered in fetid camel viscera directly into the door. It slid open revealing another room filled with troglodytes and no immediately visible path to the sacrificial chamber. Khufu thanked him and closed the door before heading back toward the room where the shard of Reshpu had gotten loose to attempt to save his cousin from being devoured.
He came face-to-amorphous-void with the shard and swings at it with his hammer. His strike went wide of the being but it got its attention. A black psuedopod swiped at him and brought him to the brink of extinction. His head swimmed with burning, pain, and madness. He stripped off his clothes and ran naked from the black being.
Teleptyon, stared deeply into the abyss focused on a way to disentangle the wound in the universe that gave the shard passage into the world of Tel. As his mind grasped the edges of that magical thread and pulled hard at it he became confused and began to scream, but the process for containing such a being in the world was disrupted and the shard of Reshpu blinked from existence as if it had never been there.
Theo spoke with the honeyed voice of Maya and Khufu and Teleptyon were pacified though haunted by their contact with unreality. Riven and Kegho began to cut down the prisoners wrapped in a mucus-like goo and when Khufu heard Herk complaining about it he was raised from his stupor to grasp him in a manly embrace.
Teleptyon skimmed the codex dropped by the necromancer and his expression was a mix of horror and intrigue. Alex stripped the necromancer finding a ring, a dagger and two flasks one containing a luinous turquise fluid and one a soot-flecked cloudy liquid. He put the ring on his thumb, it being too big for any of his fingers, and felt it slide tight against his flesh. "'is parney is right spelled innit?" realizing his foolishness he pulled it free and it came off easily. He placed it on a less conspicuous finger.
The party found a path past the chambers of the necromancer and found themselves outside the pallisades of the Yafwadi to the west. They led the former prisoners and returned to the cave where Yahi, The Jiam, and Elissa were overjoyed to see them. The prisoners were eager to find their way back to their village and told them that it was near a small oasis north around the cliffs. They warned that to the south and east they would find more of the Cynocephalus who were attempting to wake a young sleeping dragon.
