Wem

The Wem are a nation comprised of several mixed Goblinoid tribes that live in the foothills of the Kharadim Mountains in Aerisca Borealis. The Wem survive through brigandage, taking advantage of the tall and dense vegetation of the local shrublands to prey on Aeriscan and Kharadi merchant caravans.

The Wem speak Wemhavian, which is part of the larger Cobalic language family.

Shared customary codes and values

The Wem are united by a shared language and a lifestyle revolving around banditry and pillage. While the three Wem tribes will come into conflict with one another from time to time, the majority of violence is directed outwards towards neighboring Human and Ghamod settlements.

Average technological level

The Wem possess the knowledge to smelt bog iron to forge tools and weapons. However, there seems to be no evidence of the Wem having mastered the technology necessary to craft metal armor, with all examples of mail as part of their patchwork armor having originated as spoils claimed during raids.

Common Dress code

Wem dress for the hot and dry climate of Aerisca Borealis, prefering to don loose-fitting breeches paired with a hooded cloak. In combat, Wem brigands will wear hide or leather patchwork armor.

Gender Ideals

There is a stark division in gender roles within Wem society. Wem males are expected to be cunning warriors who rely on stealth and numbers to overcome much stronger foes. On the other hand, Wem females are expected to focus on expanding the tribe by being fecund mothers of Phobetroid young and to craft the tools necessary for the men to be successful on their raids. While Wem females are trained in the use of arms to defend their warrens, it would be unheard of for a female to accompany Wem males on a raid.
