Ice People
The Ice People found in the Antarctic ruins are similar in some regards to Glacier, although their cryokinetic abilities are nowhere near as developed. They have the same pure white hair and deep blue icy hard skin as Glacier (although, again, not quite as tough).
Reviving Ice People from their cyrogenic suspension is a challenge sequence requiring successful use technology, magic, and medical treatment. If the challenge does not succeed, then the Ice People do not survive the revival process.
The Ice Person template and background could be the basis for the origin of characters other than Glacier. Another ice- or cold-based character might be an Ice Person (either aware of their true nature and heritage or not) and experimentation with Ice Person DNA (either samples taken from Glacier or others) could produce hybrids or altered humans with Ice Person like traits and powers. Ancient interbreeding may even mean there are latent Ice Person genes in some portion of humanity (especially near perpetually cold regions). Trying to “activate” this potential could be part of the scheme to artificially create Ice People, either by Glacier or some other villain or organization.
Civilization and Culture
History
Deep in the interior mountains of Antarctica lie underground passages many thousands of years old. These passageways contain the ruins of an ancient humanoid civilization along with a number of survivors.
Over ten thousand years ago, alien genetic technology modified a group of humans to survive in extreme cold temperatures, also stimulating a latent cryokinetic ability to lower temperatures and an extended hibernation capability. This offshoot of humanity became known as the “Ice People” to the inhabitants of ancient civilizations like Atlantis, and may have inspired any number of human myths and legends about ice- and snow-dwelling supernatural beings.
After the retreat of the great glaciers at the end of the last glacial period, the Ice People fled north and south, following the frozen climate, until they eventually settled, and then began to fall into “the Great Sleep,” a deep state of suspended animation, in which their life functions were suspended and their bodies preserved by the cold.
One Ice Person, named Gela-Ziir, was accidentally discovered buried in ice in the Arctic Circle. Initially believed to be a well-preserved corpse, he was taken for study and defrosted, which restored him to a confused state of consciousness. Gela-Ziir—or “Glacier” as he became known in the media—claims to be a prince of the Ice People, and seeks to find and restore them, certain they have slumbered too long, and concerned that human tampering with the environment will soon spell the end of his race, if polar ice caps continue to melt at an alarming rate.
