The "Light" of Lady Bellona Albion
Summary
According to legend, the Light of Lady Bellona Albion was a gift bestowed upon the first Highlander King during the Great Revolution. Lady Bellona Albion shared the secret of magic with him, and he in turn shared the secret with his eight Companions and the rest of the races in the Freelands. Though the question remains: is the light a metaphor for the secret of magic being revealed or is it an actual physical, historical, magical, and holy artifact of the gods? If it is an actual artifact, then if someone possesses it... then can they control all the magic known and unknown to the world? If so, then does that mean the one possesses it can hold the power of a goddess in their hands?
Historical Basis
Historically the Elves were able to rule over all the Freelands without true resistance due to having a monopoly on magic. Up until the Great Revolution the knowledge and secrets of magic were virtually unknown to all the other races, yet for some reason the Highlander King was either uncovered or was bestowed the secret by Lady Bellona Albion. Whether or not he was suppose to share said secret with the rest of the Freelands is anyone's guess, and as to whether or not the "Light of Lady Bellona Albion" is real itself is anyone's guess. Though there are a few references to what can be described as a large white diamond held in the left hand and a sword in the right hand of Highlander Kings and Queens in many of the portraits and tapestries depicting them.
Spread
The story is older than the Kingdom of Man itself, it is considered a fantasy to treasure hunters and historians alike. Though there are a few "mad" and "heretical" scholars who obsess over such a treasure, and supposedly there are some agents within both the New Bloods and the Holy Order of the Light with secret orders to collect such a treasure.
Variations & Mutation
There are rumors that during the Great Rebellion that the "Light of Bellona Albion" was smashed into twelve pieces and each of the twelve princesses took a piece for safe keeping, though such a story is as apocryphal as the story of "the twelve dancing princesses" themselves. The two legends are very much intertwined with one and other.
Cultural Reception
It's a literal joke and a fairy tale, however if such a thing were true... the New Bloods would spend much gold as they could to possess such a treasure and the Holy Order of the Light would gladly burn the entirety of the Freelands if it meant getting their hands on it.
In Literature
There are mentions of such a thing in the Codex Stella, but such a thing is treated moreso as a metaphor rather than an actual treasure. Though are are some heretical writings and journals that predate the Holy Order of the Light that claim it to be fact.
In Art
The magical diamond in question has made appearances in many ancient tapestries and portraits of Highlander Kings throughout the history of the old Kingdom of Man.
