Gleld (G'LELL'd)

Gleld is a spore-like organic chemical released either as an airborne, hormonal compound or as a sticky secretion by Ba'athorog via their tails and glands scattered over their body. It is generally not visible to the naked eye of most species and works through inhalation or skin contact.   It both facilitates their semi-psychic abilities on lesser Azgorach and other weak-willed living beings and can generally act as a poison, awareness-inhibitor or numbing agent, or stimulant (usually aggression) depending on the chemical composition chosen; while significant air saturation is just as potent as the liquid secretion and requires no physical contact, it takes longer to build and works best in an enclosed area. General proximity is a determining factor, with more talented individuals being able to remain effective over greater distances if relying solely on airborne saturation. Duration of its effects largely depend on saturation level; the Ba'athorog's personal potency and whether they are continuing to release it; and environmental factors such as the presence of water or humidity; the willpower of the affected individual also plays a role, as does external stimuli from other individuals (affected or not).   The vast majority of Ba'athorog have limited control over the chemical composition or potency of their gleld, with its use being restricted to the most basic. Occasionally a more gifted individual -- such as Xa'aroch -- can develop greater finesse and unlock its full biological manipulation potential.
