Mahasgu
Mahasgu is a Kivan hardtack made from dried meat, grain, and vegetables. Due to their relatively high nutrition content and fillingness, they are a common trail ration. They are known for their potent smell and as a result, they are often packaged tightly in waxed paper or lacquerbush. They may be rehydrated but the unappetizing-looking result means they are commonly eaten still dry.
The term also refers to the production method.
Manufacturing process
Typically any meat to be included is dried first before being added to the mixture, though depending on the water content of the vegetable these may also be dried separately. These ingredients are then combined with a seasoned grain gruel and portioned into molds that are either baked or left to dry in the sun. Each brick is wrapped separately but they are typically sold in batches of ten bricks.
History
Mahasgu was not well-known outside of Kiva or the borderlands of Unenshuut or Ustraria, but it was introduced internationally during the War of the Six when it formed one of the major rations for the Violet Accord.
