Booguns are carnivorous beetles that sport durable exoskeletons, compound eye's split into 6 sided compartments, powerful legs and most notably a pair of sharp, hollow pincers capable of injecting a deadly venom that is used for the paralyzing and killing small prey.
History:
Boogun Bugs have long dwelt within the tepid jungles of Apioll IV for at least thirty thousand years, while not the apex predator of their home, nor the most notable initially, their rise to infamy began at the discovery of a unique property. While their venom is often fatal when injected into smaller bugs, if a larger being is subjected to their bite the victim will begin to experience an intense high that enhances both the users mood and physical sensitivity. With this remarkable discovery, the prospect of capitalising on a potentially lucrative trade good sparked conflict among the galaxies criminal enterprises. Various wars were fought between rival gangs for control of Apioll IV, culminating with the victory of The Yakana Cartel, and after securing the planet for their own interests, quickly set about constructing industrial level farms to acquire and breed huge quantities of Booguns, enslaving the local populace to achieve these ends. Within several decades, use of the Boogun Bug as a recreational drug became known far and wide across the galaxy, with entire worlds and communities becoming destroyed by its addictive qualities. While the Yakana Cartel saw no reason to end their continued farming and distribution of the bug, various factions and governments across all corners of the galaxy prohibited both the use and possession of this dangerous narcotic. While efforts to stop the sale of Booguns have proven effective in some regions, the use of smugglers, the expansion of Boogun Farms on several worlds and the heavy security surrounding Apioll make ending the reign of Boogun's difficult.
The Venom's qualities and use:
In order to experience the full effects of Boogun venom, the administration of the chemical must be injected from a live specimen, this requires handling the still kicking creature and allowing it to bite the user on either the neck, arm or ass to achieve the desired result. While the venom can be extracted into small vials for later use, the potency is far lower and the risk of side effects increases tenfold.
