Kikamaxi

Biology:   Originating from a harsh and radioactive wasteland, the Kikamaxi stands out as one of the most resilient and adaptable species in the galaxy. Able to withstand extreme conditions such as high radiation, intense heat, biting cold, and even the vacuum of space. sporting six legs, they boast impressive agility, enabling them to navigate at high speeds while effortlessly crawling along and scaling various surfaces. Their foremost legs possess a remarkable dexterity, allowing them to interact with and manipulate objects, resembling the functionality of humanoid hands.   The Kikamaxi's robust exoskeleton, composed of hardened chitin, provides formidable defence against most slashing attacks and even withstands lower-grade laser fire. However, it is not impervious to intense pressure and heavy firepower, as it may crack under such extreme conditions. Often found in tight-knit groups or as solitary scavengers, Kikamaxi possess a unique digestive resilience, capable of consuming and processing nearly all organic material without suffering adverse effects. This extraordinary ability renders them resistant to substances that might otherwise prove poisonous or incapacitating to other organic species.   Though lacking the conventional facial expressions for emotional communication, the Kikamaxi skilfully convey their feelings through subtle gestures using their two large antennae, a form of expression that becomes decipherable with practice. Reproduction for the Kikamaxi involves a complex process, with individuals possessing both male and female genitalia. Mating typically occurs after a period of courting, during which a Kikamaxi utilizes an extendable ovipositor to lay eggs. Typically, these eggs are deposited beneath the planet's sand dunes.   History:   The Kikamaxi emerged on the moon of Gorokarth III, a world of arid deserts and immense industrial complexes left by an unknown precursor civilization that seemingly vanished approximately two million years ago, leaving behind their decaying metallic arcologies and industries to rot. Debates persist among researchers regarding the fate of the precursors, questioning whether they perished or migrated, with some even proposing a connection to the equally ancient Prag'narns. The moon, once sustained by the precursors' care, faced turmoil as the complex fusion reactors within these factories began to deteriorate. Meltdowns and violent explosions ensued, releasing radiation across the deserts, triggering the evolution of various species, including the initially non-sentient Kikamaxi. At this stage, these creatures were small, akin to Earth's house cats, scurrying through the ruins in search of sustenance. The turning point arrived with the arrival of the Prag'narns, who, through mysterious means, influenced the evolution of the Kikamaxi, leading to both an increase of size and intelligence. Following the departure of the Prag'narns, armed with newfound sentience, the Kikamaxi embarked on the ambitious task of reverse-engineering their homeworld's remnants. With this acquired knowledge, many ventured into the cosmos, becoming opportunistic travellers. In their interstellar journeys, the Kikamaxi assumed the role of nuisance scavengers, infiltrating various systems and space stations to subsist off whatever scraps of food and materials they could find, although their presence is seldom tolerated.
