Locaran

Locaran are a cephalopodic race of space drifting parasites that inhabit all corners of the galaxy.   Biology:   Possessing a remarkable capacity to thrive within the harsh environment of the vacuum of space, the Locaran are space-drifting parasites, thriving on the radiation emitted by spacecraft. This unique mode of sustenance has propelled them to an unparalleled level of galactic scale, serving as unavoidable pests and in some cases, threats to vessels on long distance journeys.     Lifecycle   The typical Locaran life cycle commences with the hatching of eggs, releasing countless spores into the cosmic void. Thriving on cosmic radiation, these embryonic entities undergo rapid growth, doubling their mass within a mere span of 1 to 2 weeks. As their size augments, they become capable of attaching themselves to passing spacecraft, seizing upon this opportune moment to initiate the next phase of their life cycle.   Upon successfully latching onto a host ship, the Locaran's primary organism cell seeks the vessel's reactor core, positioning itself to harness the direct radiation source for accelerated mass augmentation. As this process unfolds, a series of transformative events take place. Tentacles, extending from the primary organism, emerge and progressively spread across the vessel's surfaces. These multifunctional appendages perform diverse roles within the Locaran's lifecycle, encompassing ensnarement, hunting, and breeding strategies.   Octari and Palani Functions:   Among the tentacle's remarkable adaptations are the capacity to sprout ocular structures known as Octari, facilitating hunting and detection of prey within the ship. Simultaneously, the tentacles harbor specialized tips termed Palani, which serve as reproductive organs. The Palani appendages are a central component of the Locaran's breeding cycle, a process notorious for its traumatic implications on unwitting victims. Those subjected to Locaran breeding are held captive within designated ship compartments, where Palani tendrils deposit eggs after mating. This breeding practice, is a fate met with dread by the unfortunate few who have survived such encounters.   The Locaran's status within the galaxy is one of disdain and fear. These parasites, deemed galactic pests, engender unease and trepidation among all sentient species. Their prolific numbers have prompted the emergence of specialized groups known as Locaran Exterminators. Equipped with advanced gas and fire-based weaponry, these groups engage in a relentless battle to eradicate Locaran infestations. Despite their successes, the insidious persistence of the Locaran population continues to plague the galactic community, underscoring the unparalleled resilience and adaptability of these cephalopodic nomads of the void.
