Chittering Spirit

The "Chittering Spirit" is a Mysterious Being that seems to have been either intentionally or unintentionally harming the Spiritual Travelers during their journey. It revealed its name to be Ò̵̆ͅO̸͙̰͉̍S̶̠͛͆͛͑R̴̠̅̈̇͝C̷̨̳͗̒̈́̎N̶͇̣͌̌̄̀Ǔ̷͇S̴̤͠ͅḪ̷̓͐U̸͙̳͐̓̈́̓
Choronusus
.   Information about this Spirit is incredibly difficult to come across as any information about it is immediately removed from existence, sometimes painfully, with or without the Spirit's presence. This was first witnessed in Taranel (the Material Plane) when Agave and Namina were communicating with the spirit of the dying tree beneath the abandoned goblin village. Its chittering caused a great deal of duress for them and they nearly completely lost their memories of the encounter. When others tried to also communicate with the tree, they felt the same chittering but forgot about it immediately.
While traveling through The Maze, The Spiritual Travelers encountered a few Centipedes. Most of them were smaller, mundane critters, but there was also one that was seen in a vision by Kaswink that was much larger and wrapped around a Throne made of Stone. This was seen after taking the crown in the room with The King.   Additionally, strange Chittering noises were heard when they were first speaking to The Chained Man. It's unclear at this time if this Spirit is the one that "won't let him die", or perhaps even is the Chained Man, or what the connection is...if there even is one.
Remembering information about this Spirit seems to be more harmful than simply letting it go as experienced by many members of the Spiritual Travelers.   Writing down information is also a challenge unless you have a special Fountain Pen, and, even then, consciously trying to write down information about it causes a great deal of suffering.   Sharing information about the Spirit is also a bad idea as it causes damage amongst other problems.   It revealed that it does indeed have a connection to The Spiraling Gate. In fact, the connection it has is that it "is that Gate." This spirit seems to be both a spirit and a location in the Spirit World...however that works. If that is the case then why would it not be able to release Steve instead suggesting that one of the steps in doing the "Impossible" is to "Free the Lost One".   It seems to have a subconscious ability to damper the effects of whatever has hold of Kaswink as she did not transform and attack her friends when she was bloodied.

The Tea Party

The Spiritual Travelers "summoned" this spirit using a Tea Party as Kaswink believed that the damage caused at the Gate Camp was from this spirit based on some context clues. When it appeared it initially had the appearance of just a shadow on the ground that grew in size as it moved around coiling and uncoiling itself. It eventually was able to peel itself off the ground as it became more physical. Its presence seems to cause feelings of both Deja Vu AND forgetfulness while also instilling an unusual and hard to describe feeling of "something that you might've done that you want everyone to forget."   When it spoke its voice was understandable though made up of the same chittering noise it usually makes. It had a great deal of information that the Spiritual Travelers were looking for, particularly about some of their personal quests and how to reset The Cycle. At certain points in the conversation it would reveal cursed information that required it to dissolve part of its physical form.   It was incredibly polite during the entire Tea Party, and it also explained that it is connected to memories and being forgotten, a "rather paradoxical existence" in its own words. It has the ability to share the stored memories of people and doing so imbues the entirety of said person into another, as experienced by Agave.
During the conversation with this Spirit, the Spiritual Travelers learned that the Cycle is broken already. It is less a "Circle" bringing souls back to life, and more a "funnel" dragging the souls of the dead to oblivion. Apparently this spirit has seen many worlds die, and the ones that it was unable to save were all the same. A "desolate landscape" a "sun that has gone dark" and "no memories of what was once there." Its goal is to preserve the memories of these places so that the worlds don't ever truly die.   This spirit provided a bit of a path that could be followed for Namina to "restore the cycle", to make it less of a funnel and more of a circle. It explained that doing so is "an impossibility" and that the path is somewhat already being followed by the Spiritual Travelers.
"Well, you're already on a path that would get you closer, and your friends will bring you to the next step which will involve dealing with some "confidential information". When you pass the hurdle that is retrieving the One that is Lost, and when you defeat the One that is Caged, and vanquish The Usurper...then you will find yourselves at the Edge of The World ready to jump into your doom. Only then will the cycle be repaired."

As it mentioned the "One that is Lost", DAN received a vision while sleeping of the same farm they had visited inside the outhouse. However, the buildings were all replaced with a massive obelisk wrapped in chains with a throne at its base. The throne had a small-sized humanoid recognizable as Steve crouching and shaking in an upright fetal position.   As it mentioned "The Caged One" it formed shadowy chains that wrapped around Kaswink.   As it mentioned "The Usurper" it formed shadows into a greatsword, a banner and a crown that placed themselves in Hysteria's hand and on their head.   As it mentioned the edge of the world and jumping to doom, feelings of Deja Vu, forgetfulness and so forth returned to the Spiritual Travelers. The shadows that were on the ground also formed into a circle that was split down the middle. Half was reaching out with jagged, spike-like projects while the other half was perfectly smooth and emitting rays of "light" using more shadows.
"Death"
On Daulok 23, 308, the Spiritual Travelers defeated The Oni, and watched as a cloud of darkness consumed all light in the world starting from the Northwest. The darkness stopped just before it reached them, however, and a familiar chittering noise filled their minds. Headaches were mild, no damaging effects so far, but The Chittering Spirit soon appeared before them at the edge of the darkness.   “You must leave this place. Return to your base for now…I have slowed its growth to a crawl, but it is still growing. You must rest now, Travelers, and then make your way to the center. My efforts will destroy me, scatter this form to the Spiraling Dark, and so I would leave you with one last bit of very Painful Knowledge. Farewell.”   The Spirit then slowly dissolved, its corporeal form fading from existence and being scattered to the swirling, dark winds behind it. Its voice echoed through the minds of these travelers again though as its "very painful knowledge" was received. Everyone but Frode passed out from the pain, and he was tasked with bringing them all back so that Bobcat could teleport them all home.   “Those that are trapped: perhaps literally in a dungeon, spiritually in a situation from their past, in a form that is not their own, maybe mentally in other ways…they’re all prisoners. They all give him power to some degree. Think of the clouds that parted when you freed Croak, or when Ilven was saved, or when you defeated the brewer’s Torment. Think of what might lie beyond the clouds and why the Oni might want them covering the sky. There are words I wish to tell you, but they cannot be repeated even by me… you must find my Creator. He knows what the Oni has planned. He knows what is happening to the world right now, and He is trapped beneath His Throne. Take this Knowledge, and another gift with it: The Spiraling Darkness beyond me contains…everything in the Spirit World that has been consumed by it. It is dangerous, Travelers, and you would do well to Know what is out there. This means that I too will be everywhere within, and my Knowledge of Myself could help you in your journey.”

Physical Description

Body Features

This Spirit is shaped like an incredibly large Centipede with a "humanoid" face. It has rows of sharp teeth in its mouth and eyes that are made of "nothing". Not light, or darkness, or even transparent and showing the world behind it...they're made of "Nothing".   Despite being insect-like in appearance, it is also covered in a tangled up fur and long hair combination that lines the area between its underside and chitin. The same fur/hair also grows around its face.   Its underside is covered in faces that are screaming in agony. It was revealed that these faces belong to the first civilization this spirit preserved the memories of. As its "creator" wished to have the citizens of his dying world remembered forever.
The spirit has the ability to conjure forth tiny, thin arms with palm-less hands made of spindly fingers that are capable of using the same sign language as Hysteria, manipulating tea cups and transforming further into massive centipede limbs to provide memories when requested.   When it would deliver cursed information to the Spiritual Travelers, its head would vanish revealing more of the shadows it was originally made of as well as fragments of a crown that rotated in the air.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

There isn't much history to be told about this spirit, though it did reveal some small details.   Particularly, it explained that its existence began at the whims of a single person. A lone survivor of a disaster that resulted in the death of an entire world. This being apparently somehow brought the Chittering Spirit into existence with desire to die, be forgotten, and for their world to be remembered so that it can live eternally.   Because of this origin, the spirit has a Paradoxical Existence where it strives to both be forgotten and unknown while also preserving the memories of all things.   It also claims to be The Spiral Gate which suggests that it is incredibly old and likely the Smrtohnya of Coils, Cievka of the Harandil Pantheon. If this is the case, then either the Spirit World isn't as old as it might be, the Spiraling Gate isn't as old as the Spirit World, or the Spirit World and this being were created at the same time by some very depressed individual after losing their entire world.
If the creator of this being also created an entire layer of the Spirit World, it could be possible that its creator was also responsible for the rest of the Spirit World.   The story of a lone survivor creating a new world seems similar to The Lost Child, a depressing Elven children's book. The use of spirals in the artwork, and the idea that a light found the child and helped them live despite everything is also uncanny.
