Paranoia
Paranoia is a type of emotional spirit and a manifestation of, as the name suggests, Paranoia which seems to have been afflicting Hysteria since the Spiritual Travelers arrived in The Gates on Nurend 03, 308. It was first seen while Hysteria was out scouting with Agave, it had the form of an arm with a distorted hand. The fingers of this hand were unusually long with long, sharp claws that scratched a nearby tree. This was the only bit of evidence that Agave was able to see. Hysteria, in that moment, also heard Agave's own voice inform them that he would kill them that night.
The spirit seems capable of forcing feelings of paranoia within those that it has possessed, and even creating auras of paranoia that create mistrust amongst friends. Insecurities and an inability to truly know the feelings of those one might call friends leads to certain problems like less effective healing and hallucinations. It attempted to control Kaswink's mind, but was shrugged off as she continued to scream and run through the forest.
Hysteria was able to calm their mind and stop the paranoia through meditation and repeating folk tales in an almost mantra-like way. It seems that enough willpower can calm the paranoid thoughts forced upon someone.
The Spiritual Travelers defeated a Paranoia spirit on Nurend 05, 308.
Basic Information
Anatomy
When Paranoia was first seen by Hysteria it was just a distorted arm, hand, fingers and claws.
The next time it manifested was during the encounter with The Spirit of Christmas. Here it was forcibly removed from Hysteria thanks to the overwhelmingly positive and trusting nature of the jovial spirit. Here it was seen to be a cloud of black smoke with unmatching eyes scattered within its mass. It continued attempting to follow Hysteria and first displayed its ability to prevent healing.
Most recently, Paranoia has revealed more of its form and ability to cause mistrust and insecurities along with dreadful hallucinations that have filled the minds of each Spiritual Traveler as they struggle to defeat it in their camp. Long reaching arms that turn out to just be tree branches, eyes in every dark space of the woods, and whispers that are carried on the wind and rain.
