The Citizens of Greed

The Citizens of Greed are a rather engimatic group of merchants that travel across The Gates peddling their wares for coin.   Croak has explained little about them besides the fact that they are causing local merchants in all areas to begin accepting coins when they would have normally just wanted sentimental objects or whatever interested them at the time. They hail from The Endless City of Greed and can be found anywhere in The Gates, sometimes with a strange air of convenience. He also mentioned that some do look like Hysteria, but with a bit more fire in the eyes.
The Interview
On Nurend 06, 308 the Spiritual Travelers spent a small amount of time purchasing items from The Citizens of Greed (Salesman 37 and Salesman 38). They also interviewed these two salesman to learn more about their culture.   Kaswink: Who are you?   S37: I'm Salesman 37, that's 38.   Kaswink: Who do you work for?   S37: We work for the city of Greed and all of its people so that it can be prosperous. We are tasked with our duties by Igniren.   Kaswink: Did you know we were here?   S37: No, not until we found you.   Kaswink: Many citizens of Greed wander around here?   s37: We have 100 salesmen wandering The Gates making sales. We have 100 collectors finding valuables and returning. Those are just the ones that aren't back home.   Kaswink: And back home how many?   S37: Demographics get a bit more intricate at that point. (He does some quick math) 925 citizens. Those are just the ones with specific jobs. The City itself is seemingly endles.   Kaswink: Where is Greed?   S37: Far East of the Badlands.   Namina: What about your eye colors?   S37: We have fire in our eyes in blues and reds. Some of us are completely made of fire, others just have old scars and burns that are lit up.   Namina: You remind me of a candle we saw in the Brain Labyrinth (The Maze). We gave offerings to it! It burned in a similar way your eyes do.   S37: (Explains the candle is a symbol of who they serve)

Structure

Show spoiler
Salesmen - 100 wander the gates, named “Salesman 01-100” They’re dressed in simple suit pants with matching shoes and vests, off-white shirts with rolled up sleeves   Collectors - 100 are sent out into the gates to find things and return, named “Collector 01-100” They are dressed in what they wore when they became collectors. Innocent adventurers, tourists, and even citizens of greed with other tasks can be assigned the role of collector. When someone becomes a collector they gain the number of another collector that has recently returned to the city of greed.     Bakers - “Baker 01-75” Cooks - “Cook 01-75” Merchants - “Merchant 01-50” Guards - “Guard 01-100” Miners - “Miner 01 - 200” Farmers - “Farmer 01-200” Cleaners - “Cleaner 01-100” Craftsmen - "Craftsman 01-50" Barkeeps - “Barkeep/Bartender 01-50” Firestokers - 25 exist within the city, keeping the fires of greed burning. They wear red robes, named “Firestoker 01-25” usually seen in Igniren’s Palace but can also be seen in the city at times. If such a thing as rank exists, theirs is a bit higher than any other besides Igniren. Unlike the other citizens, Firestokers are all the same race of Red Half-Dragons.

Culture

Per their attitude throughout their interraction with the Spiritual Travelers, their entire culture appears to be based around acquiring what they do not have. They are eager to trade items for anything that may not already be in the vault. Sentimental objects are particularly valuable along with Memories, coins, and items of a similar value to what they are trading away. Everything has a price, and they'll do what they can to get the most out of any sale.   The salesmen that the Spiritual Travelers met were named "Salesman 37" and "Salesman 38" meaning that there is a high chance all citizens of greed are named after a job and a number... or, at the very least, all the ones that are likely to interract with an outsider or another Citizen of Greed. Who knows what the countless unnumbered citizens are up to.   Beyond this, not much is really known about their culture.

"We always get the sale!"
