Ulunor's Bloom

I'm not sure who Ulunor is, but her bloom really helps! - The Writer

A rather common flower, relatively easy to identify but tricky to harvest the more useful portion for use in potions, general herbalism, or other forms such as incense, tea, and so forth.   It was first catalogued by The Writer on Nurend 12, 258 when Tympi made a poultice for him after a rather rough and nauseating night with Fjarverand. A drawing of the plant is available in the Plant Index under the entry "Spais, Ulunor's Bloom, Tree of Serendipitous Destiny, Sporadock".   It was introduced to DAN Wildcloak by Croak shortly after he was rescued by the Spiritual Travelers on Nurend 04, 308.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ulunor's Bloom has the appearance of a curving and twisting vine stretching around a post though no post is present. The vine and leaves are a pale green. Each leaf is rather small, about 1-2 centimeters each, and they line the vine-like stem with clusters of no more than two leaves each.   The flower itself is a pale yellow and grows at the end of the vine which wraps back around the plant creating a golden spiral with the flower at the center. This flower always has 10 petals, five of which are longer and pointed at 5-6 centimeters each, the other five are shorter and rounded at 3-4 centimeters each.

Biological Cycle

Ulunor's Bloom is present in all seasons. It begins growing at the start of a season and is finished growing by the end of that season.   It takes about 6 weeks to fully grow a vine from a new seed and an additional 6 weeks to grow and bloom its flower. The flower and vine will be present and healthy for the full two months of the new season until the seeds fall and spread. At this point the vine decays as well as new ones begin to grow from the fallen seeds.   The flower portion of Ulunor's Bloom is best used when fresh. Most herbalists, gardeners and the like will usually only harvest what they need or, if they are cultivating this flower, harvest only when at least one other flowering Ulunor's Bloom is present so that it constantly remains in the area.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

It has a variety of uses that all involve curing ailments. This includes nausea and other disease or illness related issues, closing wounds, expelling certain spirits that may have possessed the target, and even regrowing limbs.   The small green leaves along the vine can be used for lesser potions of healing and the flower itself, while delicate, can be used to create more powerful potions and Ulonor’s Poultice. Using this flower also reduces the cost of crafting Potions of healing (up to Supreme) by half.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Ulunor's Bloom can be found throughout the Spirit World. In The Gates it is common in every biome regardless of water supply, temperature and other factors that would normally deter such a plant. In other layers, or "Gates", it is far less common and usually only found in very "special" areas.
