Personal history

Berith was born in Pike's Bay to the noble Gilderland family. The Gilderlands gained their wealth in the early days of the Civil Trade Union by finding a great deal of gold and silver in their land. This immediately elevated them to nobility, and they remain one of the oldest noble families in the empire. Berith's branch of the Gilderland family moved to Pike's Bay in the 950's to take advantage of money-making opportunities during the Mountain War, and one of the sons moved with his wife to Silvium in 1001. Berith was born shortly after, and wanted for nothing during his childhood. Raised believing he could do no wrong, he was sure that he was the best in everything he did. After getting a brief education in mercantilism and trade, he deemed it too easy and simple for his taste and instead began pursuing a career as a lyre player and storyteller. 
With very little ability, Berith's parents often paid out for venues to put him on stage. This wasn't out of pity; his father and mother thought their son was so good that they gave money freely to make sure his venues were flush with luxurious food and drink. This often attracted wealthy listeners, but they came for the food, drink, and company rather than Berith's attempts at music. This ended up making him a success despite the odds, earning hearty amounts of gold due to the "popularity" of his shows.
