Caris
A city built from ruins in the Grim Sands.
History
Caris is technically a ruin; the Golden Empire found a long dead city and used it as the foundation of a new one. The sandstone buildings were remarkably intact and estimated to be at least 600 years old. Interestingly, no remains from living creatures have been found in or around the city.
Points of interest
A large dam separates a higher portion of the river, causing runoff to flow down to a low point, effectively creating a man-made branch in the river.
Tourism
The harshness of the Grim Sands stops tourism from being a large industry. Tourists do come to see the dam during calmer seasons, but there is little else to draw visitors that don't have business.
