The Peak Men

A clan of human barbarians from a mountain called Peak.

Structure

The clan is led by a chief called the Pillar, who is elected by the eldest women of each family. These women are collectively known as the Matrons. The matrons make decisions for the clan, and the Pillar enforces their will.

Culture

The Peak Men are known to be somewhat reclusive, believing it is important to spend time reflecting and honing ones skills. The collection of knowledge through tales and narrative drawings is an ancient practice that the clan follows. Young men and women frequently go on journeys, sometimes past a decade in length, with the goal of finding more tales to bring back home. These tales must always come from personal experience; if a Peak Man hears of a fabled monster or a wonderous myth, they must confirm it is real and true with their own eyes.   Each tale is recorded on a scroll using complex and artful drawings to explain the details. The clansperson is also their own recordkeeper. When another wishes to hear a tale, the one who lived it goes to the Hall of Legends and recites their experiences to all who wish to listen. Upon an adventurers return, a grand feast in their honor is held in the hall.
